So a close friend(let's say Tom) works at RBC and recently they interviewed for another bank and the bank extended the offer. Tom accepted the offer and went to give their notice period of 2 weeks. The manager acted in anger and asked them to leave their keys and leave the branch immediately. The manager said that Tom won't be getting any severance pay or paid for unused vacation days even though Tom was technically fired. Is this legal? Should he take action?

Offer help - yesterday I’ve received an offer from DataDog for Services Architect 3 role on their expert services team (ProServe) - pre sale solution and engagement.

Offer was as follows Base: 155k RSU: 22.5k (90k total over 4 years, 1 year cliff).

I currently make 170k base + ISO (private company so kinda hard to evaluate). I’m 4.5 YOE

I said it needs to be more in 210-220 range in order to switch. She’s going to talk to the manager on Monday and get back to me.

How bad does it look to future employers for an experienced attorney (15+ years) who is pivoting into a different practice area and looking to lateral after only having been at their current/first job for 4-5 months in the new practice area? I've been told by a recruiter that it's not a deal breaker because of my experience level. But many colleagues have suggested I remain where I'm at (miserable and unappreciated - just took a $20k pay cut) for at least a year.

Does it mean anything specifically when a company/firm reposts their position? I went on a phone screen and it went really well (so I thought) and got the interview with a AmLaw200 firm. I thought the interview went okay but then 8 days later no contact and I saw that they reposted the position. I’ve had my position for almost 8 months and I’m ready to leave but that’s another story.

Any thoughts on changing fields of law? I have been actively networking and trying to get a position with an admiralty and maritime law firm. This is a niche field of law and it has been really difficult to break into (almost no job postings and everyone knows each other)any suggestions?

What’s a fair expectation for my first raise? I’m in-house at a publicly traded co with ~2500 employees. I’ve been doing litigation with the company for almost 3 yrs and have only had a 2% cost of living raise so far. Graduated in 2014. Base comp is $127.5k in the Philly area. I see salaries all over the place in this site and it’s hard to tell whether mine is competitive.

I am in my seventh year of practice. I was admitted to the bar in March of 2015. My main areas of practice are Corporate, Commercial, Banking and Finance (mainly asset finance - aviation), and Projects.

Just graduated from a lower tier law school, but passed the N.C. bar exam in July. I have worked with the EEOC, PD’s office, and civil litigation clinic throughout law school. Maybe it’s just the pandemic, but I’m struggling to get jobs to give my resume a second look. Any tips on how to standout post bar?

I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?
