Partners can we please stop promoting junior staff out of cycle? It leads to all this whining about why others aren't also promoted early.
Delivering on delivery, practice development and business development is what shines. Having a track record of multiple years really helps. If you don’t have delivery nailed you are in trouble from my perspective. I know everyone thinks if you sell a lot you are golden but without delivery excellence most people lag in career progression
The problem is that everyone thinks they deserve to come in at a higher level
Or kpmg1, how about spend more time hiring people at level to start. That will cut down on people who were already ahead of the curve coming in.

In my experience, performance matters. If you are creating a buzz for your performance with other Partners- your promotion acceleration can increase. It’s not about tenure. It’s about value and experiences. If you are the “go-to” consultant to turn “red” projects into success - more then once; it will happen
I know one guy at my firm was promoted a year early because he got another job offer and then used it as leverage
