Hi. Please for the love of god stop saying something “should only take x hours”. It never does! Ever! You guys suck at forecasting work, and for every additional one of you on the thread, add 30% to the runway.

Thanks.

Hi. Please for the love of god stop whining and get going. If you spent less time crying over the estimate you might actually get it done in time.

Thanks.

Love it. So true.

P1 is right. Also, you shouldn’t be so literal about it. When I say things like this, I’m mainly trying to guard against order of magnitude problems. If I say it should take 2 hours and it takes you 4, whatever. Your couple of extra hours aren’t that important to me. What I really mean though is that if you plan to spend the next three days working on it, we should have a conversation because you’re doing it wrong.

Also, please stop using empty buzzwords that only complicate conversations with clients. They/we see right through your BS.

Most clients will take your 60% work and partners know it. Work with the MVP in mind and you'll hit deadlines no problem. If you try to do more than the minimum or insist on constanly preventing re-work, you'll burn out eventually--that's engineering not consulting, and requires engineering timelines and resources.

But partners, if you're consciously in the business of always fixing rockets with duct tape, shame on you. In the vast majority of cases your clients, your staff, and even your firm are all worse off for it in the long run.

Maybe you suck at doing work??? Maybe if you focused on your work rather than social media, you could meet your deadline???

While the show was staged, there might be truth to the latter part.

I feel my SM takes credit for my work and never mentions some of the work that I am doing to the leadership, I also feel he is not very comfortable when I directly interact with the partner continued.

For partners at Big4/ ACN/ other T2 firms:
Does your WLB improve after you make partner but stress levels increase since you are responding for revenue and for people. But in terms of delivery it’s the M/SM/D handling the work and the long hours?
Is that an unfair assessment? Is it a false goal to aspire to to become a partner?
