If you’re a super star you’ll find something better. Leave them. It’s like a toxic relationship lol

Similar boat I’m in. 7 years and every years it’s been one thing or another to not get a promotion. Ofc now with Covid it’s tricky but it’s highlighted to be that i don’t feel valued. I love the people I work with, perks, etc. but I am tired of the job. Currently applying and interviewing even though it terrifies me. Your company is not the only one with good perks. They may as well lay you off tomorrow. Apply to jobs you are interested in and see what comes of it. It doesn’t hurt.

Sit down and figure out what is priority for you. If you've been passed up for promotion for 3 years and you're hesitant to leave because other things are good, maybe career progression isn't super top priority for you. If that's the case, take your time till you find a great opportunity that meets your criteria. However, don't let complacency drive you to acceptance of a poor situation. If you do in fact prioritize career growth, than you may need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture to decide what you're willing to give up. Sometimes when we realize what is most important to us, we're more willing to give up less important benefits, even if they are net positive. Or we open our minds to ways of working around the loss of certain benefits. For example, maybe you find out that health insurance will cost you a few extra thousand a year. Initially a huge shock, but if you deprioritized salary (and were getting a pay bump anyway), then it's not actually a big deal. It's just a mental hurdle.

Everything can't be a priority unless you land a dream job at a dream company. But the 3 things you mentioned essentially come down to cost. You didn't mention career progression or PTO or maternity leave or WLB, for example. Those are things that often don't have workarounds, unless maybe you can buy time or freely take unpaid leave. Cost is one dimension and makes prioritization relatively easy actually. While you're saying stock options, 401k, and health insurance are all important, they are just factors of cost. If a company offers you a salary that more than compensates for lost stock option (you can invest your own money) and higher insurance premiums (you can afford it with the higher salary and even go out of network if need be). See what I mean? You just need to find an offer that as a whole is better than your current situation. They don't each individually need to comparable or better. And the other thing to consider is how long you plan to stay when considering things like 401k vesting. I've worked for 5 companies and I have never found a job that hit all of my top priorities. I always had to negotiate on something important to me for an overall better opportunity.

Leave... believe me. I’m going going through a discrimination case and it’s been two years, I wish I had left.

Comes to promotion always something comes up. Now it is COVID while before it was something else. I see others get promoted left right and center. I don’t know what to do...

Product Management - I am somewhat interested in trying to move into product management. I have led internal analytics product development at a prior firm, and have led clients through developing/improving “products” for their teams to use however I have not led “consumer facing” products and my experiences have not been as “formal” as many PM roles ask for. I work in healthcare and would want to stay there. I’m wondering if others have any thoughts on these transitions.
