hello! I'll just be honest with you - I think certifications are crap. If you aspire to have the most elite SHRM ones to climb the HR ladder then okay, go do that. But for recruiting, I do not think those are recognizable or relevant. I've looked into those too, but even when you do a quick search, they rarely come up on successful recruiter profiles. What will get you a job or move you along is your results and your reputation for caring about what you do. Make sure you are a good recruiter and not a crap one - there are so many differences there. Stay up on the trends on your own, not for one certificate you complete once. Learn how to advise, consult both candidates and hiring teams. Be an innovator, be an excellent communicator, and know the roles you are hiring for. Do not throw spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
I have been a recruiter for a few years and after spending a couple of years in SaaS, I am now a technical recruiter and consulting with a number of firms. I have often been told by hiring managers that I ask more questions (and great) than other recruiters they've worked with, I've been told by candidates that I have given the best experience, or sometimes even if it's only a phone screen I've been told it was the best conversation with a recruiter that they as a candidate have had. Those things make me feel incredibly satisfied in my role and truly seen as a consultant. I dont mean to blow smoke up my ass here, just showing you credibility.
I highly recommend following leaders in recruiting and inclusion, Barb Bruno and Verna Myers come to mind instantly. Barb wrote a book recently called High Tech High Touch Recruiting. I bought it and I love it. IF you want to be good, DEI should also be top of mind for you, and please follow Verna Myers - attend podcasts or seminars shes in, and I think she may have a written books also.
I am just not a fan of one time exams, where you pay a fee, and have this 3 letter acronym after your name that no one knows and makes no difference. Let you reputation (or personal brand as they say) be what makes you stand out!!! :)
Thanks for sharing your insight!
