Hi Rick - in your opinion, why do you think social justice is more of a focus right now than, say 10 years ago?

I’m not sure I even see it that way. It seems to me that all the standards, the kind of tests that teachers are given to enter the profession, the kind of test that students take, are pretty much based on transmission of apparently-settled facts. Those who are trying to hold onto a social justice perspective are attempting to keep alive the principles of John Dewey. Many people argue that schools are succeeding in doing exactly what they were set up to do, sorting students between winners and losers. I myself feel that a social justice approach proposes that we can do better both in the classroom and in policy.

If anyone wants to join a boutique HR & Talent Advisory consulting firm, Kincentric is hiring for an Associate Partner role! Location doesn’t really matter, but preferably in IL, NY, or ATL.
