Hi there! Anyone have advice for dealing with a toxic team? Management is very sparse and attrition is high.. I’m leaning towards finding a new job because I’m getting nightmares about Zoom calls and work emails.

Run. Fast and far away. High turnover says a lot about a company. There’s a reason others have left. It’s not worth dealing with a toxic environment when there’s so many job openings right now, take advantage of the employee market while it lasts.

FYI it's NOT your job to fix the team!!! [Edit to add] OR do the partner(s) jobs!!!

Dudeeee I was just promoted 3 months ago into a disorganized, toxic team and was also expected to fix all the problems here that I inherited due to incompetence at all levels. I put in my resignation and have never felt better about leaving a job.

Omg that is wild.

Following this, because I'm in a similar place. I get nauseated at the thought of going to work.

I think the marketplace for good talent is at an all time high. It’s still a good time to get out there, especially if you’re in a toxic environment.

I deal with toxic office managers. It’s horrible, I’m looking around. I try to not get it to me but I also have nightmares about filings and emails.

like

It’s annoying because I like the attorneys but can’t stand the office managers that have no idea what they’re talking about. I also work in a National firm with people in different time zones. That expect to do things “that at due today” at 3 or 4 pm. I leave at 4 pm. I barely take lunch because they schedule meetings during my lunch time. I have to put my “out of office emails” every day because they forget I’m in a different time zone. And they don’t pay me enough to put emails in my phone. My office manager actually called at 5:30 pm for something “that was due today.” 🤦🏻‍♀️

Find a new job. That’s what I did!

Sounds stressful. Did you like the kind of work you did at your old firm? Have you started looking to see what other jobs may be available? It’s always hard to know what your going to get when you’re starting at a new place. It’s usually takes time for the less than desirable traits to pop up. It doesn’t mean it not worth trying to find a place that’s worth it.

Are marketing agencies really required to have their employees come into the office? We all work using computers and sharing our files in the cloud, the only time we see each other is for meetings, which can absolutely be done through Zoom. How is your job handling this atm?

Will McKinsey & Company have a case interview portion during the recruiter screening for an Associate-level opening. This is my first interview with them.
The recruiter mentioned that it will only be an audio (Zoom) call, not a video interview. I sort of assumed that there won't be a case interview portion because it is an audio interview with the recruiter. Is my assumption true? I don't want to ask the recruiter with the interview coming up in the next 2-3 days, as it might set a bad opinion.

Been for a company for over 2years. The executive team is very much a boy's club. There are a few women in management roles but zero ethnicity diversity there. I raised my concern to HR in feb. And they are just now deciding to do something about it. They want me (white female) to put together a diversity committee. Any suggestions on how to go about it? How to attract volunteers to the committee? I want to make sure I get the right people involved in this, to push for changes.

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

Had only one call with my TL in first two months. Few weeks later, on workday I noticed that my TL got reassigned. Contacted him and have setup regular catch-ups. He dropped a bomb that he is leaving and I will be reporting to partner. Partner is time poor and no feedback is offered. This is my first consulting role and I feel I am not receiving enough support. Few people are helping to learn the ropes but WFH has exacerbating the problem. How do I get a TL to receive pointed feedback? PwC

There’s one white, female associate on my floor who I’m friendly with, however, whenever she talks to me she always finds a way to bring up race/diversity. Not in a bad way, it’s mostly just complaining about how poor the diversity is at our firm or bringing up her diversity-related law school extracurriculars. I’ve seen & heard her interact with (white) associates and partners a million times, even in convos complaining about firm issues, without ever raising these topics. Justifiably annoyed?

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?

On a Zoom call:
Colleague A: *begins talking*
Colleague B: *begins talking at the the same time as A*
Colleague B: "I'm sorry, A. Go ahead"
Colleague B: (said with much attitude) "No, B. You go ahead. I'm sure what you have to say is more important anyhow."
Everyone else on the call: *Stunned silence....*

Additional Posts in Paralegals

Are any of the paralegal exams worth it? Just spent some time looking at the requirements for PACE. I have a bachelors (and masters), neither in paralegal studies, no paralegal cert, but 9 years of experience. About 4 years in T&E and the last 5 in house corporate. Obviously haven’t had issues getting hired without a cert, but working on my development plan for my performance review and thinking about continuing ed. Curious for your thoughts. TIA!

Question:please read, sorry if this too long. I’ve worked at this firm for 3 years as a Legal assistant, they hired another LA 10 months after me, she basically became the favorite. If there’s any new training to do, her direct boss (chairman) makes sure she’s the 1st to know about it, she’s the 1st being trained. I’ve talked to my boss (who is also a partner) about being trained. She said they’ll look into it, it’s been months. I’m not growing at this firm. What would you do?

I’ve been activity looking for new paralegal roles but my last position was working in the public sector. Some have told me that it’s a pro, others have said that it’s a con. I’m largely applying for positions in the private sector now, and I’ve found that I don’t have many of the entry level skills like e-filing that employers expect.
