As a hiring manager, I’m never going to sneeze and having one of the big tech titans on your CV early on in your career.
Now what you actually do and achieve is an entirely different story.
Majority of jobs are gotten through networking so having someone be able to advocate for you with a 10-15word sentence that includes Amazon is always going to help.
At the end of the day it also depends on what you want to do. If you know your niche, skills and company size preference then focus on that. If still general then get brand names and training.
Super helpful, my dream job is Google and I interviewed with them recently and didn’t make it through so in a weird way I’d love to craft my resume now to stand as good a chance as any to eventually get at Google.
Worked for Amazon for 2 yrs early in my career… I experienced all the good, bad and the very ugly you hear about working there. However, I learned so much and the name immediately opened doors for me. Would I ever go back? Not in a million years.
As a recruiter and have worked with hundreds hiring managers, interviewers, etc. over the years.. the name definitely helps to a certain extent
I worked at Amazon for six months and hated it. But it has opened many many more doors for me. Like you, google is my dream company and I can tell you that it’s adds a lot of weight for your last place of employment to be another FAANG especially one like Amazon that’s known for working you hard.
It’s like working in consulting. Everyone knows about the cons but it opens doors
Thank you, that’s super helpful!
