We have a full time nanny who lives with us during the week (Sun night to Friday night). She’s amazing and the convenience is awesome. She takes care of all the chores around my daughter (food prep, laundry, cleaning play spaces and baby dishes), in addition to child care and taking our daughter to play dates/lessons . We don’t have her do other errands, but the rule of thumb I was give was ~$1/hr more for each major set of chores/ errands you add on. We’re in Chicago and have a weekly negotiated salary that equals out to about $18/hr after taxes.
We did! The Nanny Boutique- Bridget was great to work with. I got overwhelmed by the applicants from care.com and instead Bridget sent me 5, 3 of which would have been great and 1 was perfect
Our live in nanny goes home for 1 weekend every two weeks (about 1.5 hr drive one way, we hire a driver for this). She is amazing and a member of the family. In addition to doing everything for our 1 year old son, she does almost all of the housework - laundry, cooks every meal including lunch that both my husband and I take to work, light cleaning across the house, taking out the garbage, etc. She doesn’t drive but goes grocery shopping by her house for us when she is at home. We help out whenever we’re home but she definitely the glue that holds our household together. My husband and I both work insane hours so it’s the only way we’ve been able to make it work. She works from 6am - 6pm everyday that she’s with us, often taking a nap while our son naps around midday. Her salary is ~$2500 a month and we live in southern CA.
Paying 1700 a month in Chicago suburbs. Doing similar work as D1 mentioned. She is live in but works only 7-7pm including a nap with my 16 month old. She is here from sun-Friday.
Oh also where do you live? (For reference - we are in Atlanta). Considering a live in Nanny to help with our two kids esp as I’m abt to return to work full time post mat leave).
Following, I’m also interested in other people’s experiences.
What’s the difference between a live-in nanny and an au pair?
Yes that’s all they get paid but you also pay an agency fee for the year. When you consider agency costs it comes out to about $18k a year or $350/week.
