Hi there! Has anyone successfully transitioned from IT RISK at a big 4/big 5 to IT Consulting or even strategy consulting at a mid-tier consulting firm? Or know anyone who has? If so, what are some key steps to transitioning out? I’m sure this question has been asked before so apologies in advance. Thank you!

I got an offer as a management consultant at a mid tier consulting firm after one year of experience. I applied to work in the same industry as that was really the only experience I could leverage. I also mentioned in my interviews that I was ranked a top performer at my firm which shows I’m adaptable. I also applied to an entry level position, so I was basically starting over, but I didn’t really care because the salary bump was still 20%. Honestly, there isnt much correlation between the jobs, you just have to explain why you want to make the leap.

I did! I got into technology Strategy and Innovation and sometimes do buisness strategy. I worked at EY for 1 year mainly supporting compliance, IT Risk, and IA engagements for FSO. I had a background in engineering from my college and had a keen interest in another area/industry where they’re we’re hiring. Plus had grabbed a few certs and done internal networking and initiatives/google to help me in the interviews. Show enthusiasm and they’ll take you.

Are you referring to GT as big 5 in your op? Bold

smartfunny

GT is 1/5 the size of the smallest big 4 from a revenue perspective.

like

Grant Thornton is not "big 5" lol... That being said, the switch is not easy mainly because the skillsets are vastly different. You will need to leverage your network and your reason for your switch needs to be solid.

Hey all, first time poster here and still consider myself fairly new to consulting so please be kind. Questions for past/ current Accenture folks: I noticed in some threads that SC level only applies to strategy consulting. Could Product Manager be SC level if I have my MBA or is it not even considered a Strategy role? And do they only consider you an “MBA hire” if it’s top tier MBA? Lastly, I’ve seen quite a big salary range for MBA hires. Anyone care to share the latest? TIA.

Currently an RX senior associate at A&M. Ive dealt with a fair amount of distressed pe firms and I'm pretty interested in the space. I think the skillset is much broader and opens me up to learning a lot of new skills. One thing Im curious about is how to make the move over to a invest role.

Ive toyed with the idea of doing a 2-3 year stint in RX IB at Houlian or a similar MM or EB but just am not sure if that's even needed. Anyone have some insight or suggestions they could offer? Im all ears

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

I keep getting contract offers on LinkedIn (think self-employed consultant). The rates seem really good ($120-$150/hr). I have around 5 years exp and a CISSP. I’m highly considering leaving big4 to become a contractor/self-employed consultant. From a risk perspective I’m young and have no kids and low debt.
Anyone did it? Any feedback?
