Hi all how does this work
Will life ever go back to normal?
Do you believe nurses are underpaid?
I’m interested in joining a nurses union.
Did you negotiate to get $46? If so, do you have any tips and suggestions on negotiation? I’d love to know! And I agree, nurses work hard and $46 is definitely not too much in my opinion!
Similar story as you, I've been a RN for over a decade, but my pay increase rate was slower at the bedside. Started as a new grad at 25/hr. Switching careers to off-bedside work was best and fastest for increases. I'm now at a little bit over 45/hr which is about 92k annual, salaried, Chicago land area. I only have my BSN.
Hi, it's true that informatics is a difficult field to get in without experience, but the only experience I had when I interviewed was being an EHR super user during Go-Live, and also that I had participated in two quality/performance improvement projects that slightly involved the EHR. I had gone to school for informatics but I did not complete the masters program. I also don't think I have that strong of interview skills, but I did let them know that after my 6 years bedside experience and 3 years off-the bedside I was very familiar using the EHR, to the point where I made my own custom clinical reports for my own use. Since one of the expectations in my role is to train and support end users they asked if I had any teaching experience, and really, at the time, I had none, but I talked about the number of times I had precepted new hires and how I usually took it upon myself to teach student nurses that were on the unit about the procedures and equipment we used in my department. Every little thing goes a long way. They had hired someone with informatics experience before me, but that someone had left the position abruptly and so, since apparently I made an impression on my interview, I was hired.
Pay also depends on what state it’s in. The PNW pays good but then we’ve had huge elevations in cost of living here as well. Home prices are like CA here now.
You can never make too much as a nurse. We do ALOT so own that pay hike! I cannot stress that enough. But yes, like someone mentioned it depends on state. For me in NC started off at 27, ended hospital at 34 four years later and now work remotely for 30
I totally agree. If get a raise, I'd be grateful.
