Go to HR and be firm that you’re not an executive/administrative assistant.
Document (take screen shots of) everything. Keep them on a personal device.
And then when you go to HR, reiterate that you love your job and want to help foster an environment that feels welcoming to everyone.
Doesn’t hurt to try to approach it in a nice way first since you want to stay. But keep the evidence in case people turn not-so-nice.
My thoughts exactly, thank you for putting it so well
I should also mention that this is in addition to being treated marginally differently from other male colleagues. I am constantly asked by the same guy to perform tasks that we could easily outsource or a junior could handle (think office decorations, email signature etc) in addition to being asked to order lunch on his first day 🙄
I suggest documenting all other things he ask if you outside your job scope. Then go to HR and share your concerns that one that situation made you very uncomfortable and two you are being asked to do responsibilities outside your job scope which is limiting your own development and growth and suggest hiring an assistant for the executives. In that same convo be clear you are very concerned about retaliation.
Unless this is an uber progressive company, once you raise complaint you will be marked for removal via reduction of attention and priority or given heavier workload meant to prompt resignation. HR exists to protect the company’s best interest and you will flag yourself as someone who doesn’t go with the company flow. Not saying raising your issues isn’t the absolute right and best thing to do, just be prepared to be sidelined. Do it anyway as it will benefit others in the future.
This is horrible advice. Yes, HR is there to protect the company, not the employee, but filing a complaint does not automatically get you flagged for removal.
If the photo was of a coworker, I might say something but in this situation (with only the context you provided) I would just screenshot and keep a record.
