I work for a toxic company that doesn't seem to want to promote anyone on the legacy product or women in general. I haven't gotten a title change in years but I do the work of a Sr. Manager. None of us on legacy are allowed to start work on the new system which means everyone gets promoted around us. We are re-starting our women’s networking group at our media/tech company after a 2 year hiatus and are working on a new mission statement and purpose to be more inclusive and better reflect the times. Yelled at my dad for picking a fight with my mom every morning and every night esp the last week (but also for the past 2 years). It felt good to get it off my chest, even though I know it didn’t solve anything.
I did realize - I’m no longer interested in having a relationship with him anymore.

I just found out that one of my colleagues has been weaponizing her tears and fragility to silence me. And I’m her manager. Have any of you dealt with a situation like this before? Do you have any advice that could help?

LMAO what do Afro Latinos look like? I just asked a creative to include more pictures of Afro-Latinos in our hispanic messaging and she said "I tried to find pictures of videos that looked authentic but they didn't have the right look, it's a very specific look". So no black people in the ad cause this white passing lady needs to gate keep who looks latina enough. The blond, blue eyed women in the photos passed though... UGHH.

Do you have any words for a person like me that knows a lot, have a great professional experience, but for some odd reason is feeling very unsafe and insecure in their new job?

Greeting, I'm a 3rd year kinder teacher with a bachelors in elementary ed. I feel like I'm near my breaking point, & I want out before I get there. I love certain things about teaching, but all in all its just not worth the money for the amount of bs I have to do & put up with. The dilemma is I've only ever worked within education or with kids in some form. I really want to branch out into a different career field, but I'm nervous & not sure what I can apply my degree to. Suggestions, please 🙏

I once had a job where I was ultimately made to be the scapegoat for the many problems at the company. It was an extremely difficult time and I had very little support. Plus it was during the pandemic. I spent the next couple of years looking for another full time position. Thankfully, I found one last month. Soon after I started, I realized I’m still troubled by that toxic experience. I’m now using my newly acquired EAP benefits to address it because I’m afraid of it happening again.

I found out today that there’s another black person working on my product. That makes 1 and 1/2 of us. 🙃

What was one life lesson you learned this year?

So I just started a new job and there is about 25-30% socialising, which is awesome and free. Unfortunately, a lot of the business members are old white men or rich young white men, so a lot of these social events are golf or snowboarding weekends. Two sports my black ass doesn’t play. The job is a lot of fun and I really enjoy it…but it kinda just hits home how hard it is for me to even get ahead in my field. If I can’t even be in “the room where it happens”. Any thoughts? Or encouragement?
