Hi there. I've been working at the same company for ten years. I've moved through multiple roles—from support to success to team management to QA and now to product manager—and it just doesn't feel right.

What I'd really like to do is get out of SaaS, and maybe tech altogether. But when I search for suggestions on how to do that, all I find are posts on how to break IN to tech.

Has anyone left the tech industry? What was your path to do it? Did you have to take a huge pay cut?

Lots of people have. I have several friends who have given up on tech.

Depends what you want to do. What are you interested in? If you’re wanting to leave tech and start a business, it’ll take you some time to build up a customer base. Certain industries pay better than others.

More inclined towards using my tech skills in a different sector, maybe still a tech-adjacent job just the main source of revenue isn't tech. What I've been struggling with is those positions want experience in that sector already, OR they have even more technical interviews than I've had for tech companies.

I got blindsided by a technical assessment at a publisher that wasn't the usual take-home assessment I'm used to. It was real time, my every keystroke watched, and that kind of pressure during the initial screening interview was far more nerve-wracking than anything I've done for a tech job.

So whether it's I can't get them to talk to me because I don't have sector experience or I get weeded out quickly because they're going in hard from the start, I'm struggling to find a good strategy.

I am currently an undergraduate student studying Computer Science. Can someone suggest me roles that can make six figures? I know that the entry level jobs do not have six figures but later with 3-5 YOE what roles can make $100k-$200k? I am not very familiar with the job roles out there.
Job roles that I know can make six figures are:
Software engineer
Data scientist
Developers

Can you please add other roles to the above list?!
Thanks in advance!

Is anyone wondering what life will really be like for all the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion executives that many companies are hiring and bragging about now? I wonder how much power they will actually have to effect change. I wonder how long the trend will last.

As a leader in cyber, one of my aspirations is to increase the diversity of any organization that I am a part of.

For example…When I was in Big4, I referred several diverse candidates who are thriving & now, at McKinsey & Company, I set a personal goal to refer 1 diverse candidate, especially in (but not necessarily exclusive to) cyber/tech/IT, for every month of my tenure.

In an effort to improve my interactions with the sales organization and my AE counterparts, I've been researching and studying various literature, webinars, and blogs.

I'm still unsure how to convince them and their leadership of the importance of appropriate discovery for a successful demonstration.

They won't schedule discovery calls for technical issues, and instead, they're concentrating on showcasing new features.

What are you doing to get around this obstacle?

Need help from the Hivemind. I am a rising 4th year who has only been at my firm for a little over a year (after a few clerkships). I like my firm well enough, and the partners I work with like me a lot, but I’ve learned that Biglaw is not the life for me and want to get out ASAP. I’m applying to a Fed agency that I’m really excited about, but the application requires a reference from your current supervisor. I haven’t told the firm I’m thinking about leaving. How would you handle this?
