I’m a fellow Asian woman and here’s what I would suggest: 1) Look at the market value for your title/experience in your market to give you an idea of how much you should be making so you can ask for that. You can look on realagencysalaries.com for this. Sometimes this works and sometimes your agency will require you to have an offer to prove your value. 2) Compile a list of reasons why you deserve a raise. List out your accomplishments/wins and how they have contributed to business growth. If you can tie these back to $$$ that the agency earned, that’s even better. You will need to sell how you’ve contributed to the business. This is probably the most important piece. 3) Have a conversation about growth. Have you talked about what the next level looks like? After 3 years in the same role, I would expect some movement. Be firm about getting a timeline in (sometimes you have to make the timeline yourself) and be persistent about scheduling consistent check ins with the decision maker.

Thanks so much! These are really helpful.

AD1 hits it right on the nose. I just want to say good luck and show ‘em your stuff! I constantly find myself navigating my own “bamboo ceiling”, but have always found that being upfront about your career goals with your boss always helps.

Hi all, I have been using Goldman Sachs’ Marcus Savings Account for a while as a place to hold emergency savings. The platform is pretty good and I have 4 more referrals this year. If you are interested, Marcus is having a promotion for an extra .50% APY for 3 months after opening an account. I have an awesome opportunity to apply for a promotion that would give me additional responsibilities but a faster track to leadership. I am also 10 weeks pregnant with my first confirmation appt next week. I want to go for it but feel bad about applying when I would go on mat leave in about 6-7 months, pending everything is on track with my first appt. Wanting advice on whether to apply or not and whether to disclose the pregnancy?
