I am a senior consultant (Tech Consulting) in a Big4 (India) who is promised a promotion in October. I have an offer from Accenture Ireland at CL9 level. Is it worth making the move? I have started disliking the culture in my team and thus looking for a change. It would be great if someone could help me out with this. Accenture

Many who repatriate are lured by a vibrant startup scene in India that is drawing unprecedented capital from venture and private equity firms and is buoyed by an effervescent market for stocks. But they are also disenchanted with what they perceive as America’s bleak and hopeless immigration landscape, where the wait times for green cards are tortuously long, and the limits on launching startups for newcomers are highly restrictive.

I would talk to your server beforehand and let them know so they can serve you mocktails. Congrats!
Margaritas with only the margarita mix and no alcohol or club soda with lime in a cocktail glass are my go tos

Say you are doing an elimination diet bc of health issues. It worked for me and technically true.

Ok this food allergy thing Coukd be perfect
Say you are on antibiotics and don’t want side effects from alcohol and antibiotics.
I would order enthusiastically my favorite drink, one tiny sip, chat how awesome is and then let it be and forget about it. I found out that during the ordering time is when everyone is into who is getting what and then they all space out and no longer look at what anyone else is drinking. And any time if I was asked why am I not finishing it (which was super rare by the way) all I had to say I am not feeling like it that evening and folks were cool. The fact that I was a part of the entire “ordering hoopla” made them never suspect pregnancy.
^^ this. No one notices if you don’t finish your drink and if they do I’ve never had anyone comment on it. And agree on taking a small sip if there is a toasting moment.
A little update for you all since you took the time to give great advice. I leaned in and ordered a bottle of wine for the table which was split between 6 and ended up being only a little bit per person. I took fake/tiny sips and they all ended up ordering another bottle which again ended up being small glasses per person. I drank my water and took tiny fake sips and although I think we lingered a bit so that I had the opportunity to finish my wine, I never did and no one questioned it. So order the wine and play along.
Thanks for updating! Very smart on the split bottle of wine. Nobody keeps track of whose had a second pour :) Glad it went well!

Order a glass of wine and fake sip.
Congrats! I’m sure you can just order a mock tail at the bar. Or just order ginger ale. Or some sort of seltzer water with a lime and tell people it’s vodka water 🤷🏻♀️. As long as you have a drink in your hand at all times, I can’t imagine someone asking what you’re drinking.

I always just ordered red wine and picked it up and put it back down occasionally. No one noticed - and if they did the didn’t say

IMO these are all v elaborate. No one pays attention to others, so wrapped up in their own. Low key, zero reference

I’m on antibiotics
I’m doing a cleanse
I have a headache
I’m trying to cut back on weeknight drinking (yes does make you sound like an alcoholic)
Personally I’d order a glass of wine and occasionally take a fake sip and not say anything. Most likely people don’t notice. And if they do hopefully they are self aware enough to not point it out.
Definitely used the antibiotics line before
You could say you’re giving up for lent. Or I would order a vodka soda then excuse myself to the rest room and tell the waiter to make it a soda only with a lime. Or I would order a Prosecco and just nurse it
Haha I actually used this excuse last pregnancy. Thought it was brilliant. Didn't fool anyone
Go bold with some form or piña colada or frozen drink. You can’t tell if it’s non alcoholic or not because they all look the same. Plus it’s cool and refreshing. Also congrats!!
I like it. Not sure where the dinner will end up being but this is a good one
You could say you’re taking medication (muscle relaxers for a back spasm) and you can’t mix it with alcohol. Or say that you went on a bender and can’t stand the smell of alcohol, happened to me in Rio for NYE 😬
If you go out to dinner or to a bar - let your waiter or bartender know and they can make you mocktails. I am not sure how close you are to your team but when I was pregnant I told them I was doing a nutrition reset so no alcohol. We are all really good friends so they wouldn't have believed me if I wasn't already really into fitness but the few that weren't close to me wouldn't have known the difference. I was also the type that wasn't one to turn down a drink either and they were none the wiser :) Good luck and congratulations.
I’ve said I’m doing a “dry month” when I was in the same situation. You could say you’re doing it in solidarity with someone else to make it more believable.
You could also say you’re on some medication that you can’t mix with alcohol.
Good luck and congratulations!
Non alcoholic beer?
Have a coke with your meal and say youve been craving coke for a long time but your partner is dieting so you havent been ordering/buying in long time
Say you’re doing the Whole30!
But then you would have to follow through with the meal too to keep up the ruse. 😬
I just went to a team dinner and when they asked me if i was drinking I said “not tonight. I really want a diet coke” they laughed and no one thought about it again. I’m not pregnant but was with team members i don’t know very well and don’t like to drink with people I don’t know.
When I was in that situation, I excused myself to go to the bathroom and found the waiter. I asked him to bring me a drink that looked like a cocktail because I had news I wasn't ready to share. He said he got that type of request all the time and was happy to comply. He made me a club soda with muddled mint and lime and said it was a gin fizz. It was pretty good!
