How are the paralegals in your department organized/structured? What are the pros and cons? We’re exploring the idea of a paralegal center of excellence. Currently paralegals are reporting to the lawyers they support. The disadvantages are that the paralegals are siloed, so there’s no back-up if they’re out and they don’t have anyone who can support them if their work gets too busy. Additionally, the lawyers have a hard time accurately evaluating them since they can’t easily compare their work.

Does BAL sends an E-mail after H1B transfer petition is approved?
My petition case status was changed to approved 2 days ago as per USCIS website.
Still there is no word from attorneys regarding approval(as it was premium processing, they should have received an E-mail).
Attorney/paralegal not responding to E-mail as well.

I don’t love the long hours, but have gotten through them okay. What makes big law feel impossible is interacting with awful people - from clients to opposing counsel. It feels like people are intentional a-holes for no reason, without even adding on the extra micro-aggressions I face as a woman and minority. How do you hang on in the grind with these interactions?

Has anyone taken classes in valuations and received some kind of credential with just an EA? After a bit of a detour I’m getting my EA this year. I‘ve looked in to a few options, like the CVA, but it looks like I’d have to go to business school or become a CPA. I’m not against either but I don’t feel ready to apply to schools just yet.
