No! Chief of Staff is just another fancy title for a secretary job! And far away from a directors position!

A Chief of Staff role has its benefits though, you're the right hand to leadership, and often times can be a pretty kushy role. If you still keep the Director title I don't see the drawback to it

Not sure what's up with these peeps but I know some very capable people who have exited into CoS roles and used them as stepping stones into senior management. It's like "consulting"... the CoS role can vary a ton from firm to firm and even from biz unit to biz unit. Sometimes they're glorified secretaries. Sometimes they're deeply involved in every aspect of the business, sharing the mental workload with the CEO and serving as a sounding board for their thoughts.

Chief of Staffs don't go onto become CEO, Directors do often become Partners. Don't think you'll be C-Suite because it has the word Chief in the job title.

Partners: Do you recognize the sacrifices juniors make? (Not at all critiquing. Just curious if you think about the effects of your decisions or whether you realize that this is simply not an analysis one can do given the needs of the project, for example. Also don’t mean to victimize juniors. Just too many uniform experiences suggesting juniors are seen as a backstop to all inefficiencies that roll down hill).
