Hiring Managers: how many candidates do you usually try to interview for a given job?

I realize this is a ballpark and will depend on lots of things, but I think it might be useful to roughly gauge how many people you're up against at the interview stage.

Depends on the manager, I work with 1 who insists on being very selective for entry level hourly positions with high turnover. He's rejected 2 candidates so far.

helpful

Is the high turnover inevitable and his selectivity is attempting to thwart the turnover? Or is he just a moron?

By the time candidates make it to me, I have an understanding that they are going to be technically qualified. When I find someone that seems like they will fit in with the team, has good soft skills, and could continue to grow with the role, I will generally hire them. This could be the first person that comes across to me or the 5th.

My GC is about to retire...
She has been at the company (investment firm) for three years.
I recently joined the team as corporate counsel. I only have two years of prior firm experience in a non related area.
What should I do? I’ve been brought up to speed on all ongoing matters, but feeling like I won’t be able to handle being the sole legal counsel. Should I push for someone to be hired at GC and I stay at my level, or shoot for the GC role? Would I even be qualified?

I just received a job offer at a company I'm very interested in working for (yay!). Their salary offer, however, is at the bottom end of the range specified in the job ad. In my initial interview, I said that my salary expectations align with the range specified by the ad. So, my question is do I ask for more? Or do I just accept the offer? The company benefits are decent and I would get stock options, and it's fully remote - if that influences your answer.

What do y'all think?

Over the course of 6 weeks, I had several panel interviews and the next step was a final in-person interview. Each round I had great feedback and my correspondence with the company recruiter was consistent and friendly. Until now. After a week of radio silence since my last interview, I sent a gentle polite follow up that has gone unanswered for almost a week. I saw that the original JD was reposted on LinkedIn a few days before my last interview (ugh). Am I being ghosted? So confusing.

My BF of 3 yrs is everything I dreamed of. But, we are very different. I love to travel, date nights, etc. but he rather stay home & not spend a dime. It’s gotten to a point where I am the only one planning things & when we I tell him the plans, he doesn’t care to do it. Once we are out on a date night, he makes it miserable by complaining & wanting to go home. I don’t see myself being with someone who hated doing these things. It has caused major issue. I don’t want to settle..& want to end it.

Graduated from Babson College (MA, US) in 2014. Became passionate about the tech industry during my SY. Came back home (I don’t live in the US) and worked for a family member for four years (non-tech). Left in 2018, started working on my first startup (TravelTech). Shelved in March 2020 due to Covid. Huge pivot - started working on my second startup (DeliveryTech). Failed, wrong market.

What’s my next move? I’m thinking about grad school + working in the US post graduation. Cheers!

I’ve been working in marketing/advertising for a few years now, and I would love to move into something internal where I can utilize the organizational, process driven skills I’ve honed over the years in account management. Ive had others suggest moving into a project or resource management role in either tech or corporate construction— wondering if anyone here does that and could chat with me about their day to day.

Really rethinking this whole accounting gig. I used to be so passionate about it and wanted become CFO one day, but I’m slowly starting to dread the work and my life. Everything around me has taken a toll. I’ve tried both big 4 and industry and I really don’t like either side, but I don’t know where to pivot to. Part of me wants to drop everything, travel and start my own business but idk if that’s the best thing to do amid recession fears… could really use some advice :/
