In NY, they’ve been offering Yankees tickets to high billers under the assumption that we have time to go 😂

I actually don’t understand that. I got the email this weekend 2 hours before the game and I’m like cool - Why not give me a slow month then throw those my way.

Ignoring COVID for a second and how it'll impact firm's financial capability to even give bonuses, do firms with billable reqs usually still give bonuses to first years even if they don't make the threshold?

Maybe like 5% of my first year class will make the threshold (and tbh that number would be around the same of COVID never happened. Just curious as to how most NYC big law deal with this.

2017 grad so technically a 4th year. Lateraled to a CRE boutique in NYC that’s a major player. Learned quickly that my experience/knowledge/organization is not up to par (was a COG in the machine at prior firm). Just had EOY review and, though positive sounding, they’re dropping me to a 3rd year to ensure I’m not billing as a 4th year and able to do the work to learn/get up to par. I feel pretty okay about it (market salary deduction notwithstanding), but want to make sure I’m not being naive.

High earner, but don’t feel like it. Do any other big law associates feel like they live more frugally than their friends who make considerably less? I don’t get how people who make so much less than me can comfortably splurge more than I do.

How do you know if you’re using a good recruiter? We spoke a couple of times and he seems nice but clearly didn’t even review my resume, which I feel is the most important as the first impression doc..? Is it bad to switch to someone else at his company..?
