Hit my retirement number. Pinged my RP to let him know this would be my last project. He was too busy and said to schedule time on his calendar for next week. Meeting subject recommendations?

Ok I’ll bite. Assuming current salary of $120k, investment grade debt instruments at 3%, Op has $4M saved by age 36. Assuming he started working at 21, that’s 15 years or $270k average salary. So he’s either an amazing investor or came into some kind of windfall, not disciplined in saving as he states. Check my assumptions if you want, don’t think it’ll move the needle much.

The negativity and ignorance in this thread is astounding. A super simple formula is take your annual *spending* (not income) and multiply by 25. Assuming a 4% safe withdrawal rate, that's all you need. Multiply by 30 if you want an extra cushion. For the folks that say that's impossible, firecalc.com uses the historical stock market data (1871 forward) to show your chance of success given a variety of inputs.

Will put it to you this way. Using only investment grade debt instruments, I can pay myself my current salary for the next 60 years spending every penny of it including taxes and have money left over

I originally posted this when I got back to my hotel room, thought about the day and the meaning of it. Was meant to be positive news when it seems like we are bombarded with negativity. I will give a high level version of how I got to my number of 3.5M Received 250k inheritance at age 14. The average geometric return of the S&P 500 from the time I received the money to the end of September this year was 9.4%. 250k invested for 22 years at 9.4% equals 1,804,351.28 Since my target is 3.5M, I had to come up with another 1,695,648.72. The average geometric return of the S&P 500 since I started working to the end of September 2017 was 8.2%. I had 10k personally invested after graduating college - I had a full ride so didn't graduate with any debt. Taking initial investment of 10k, future value of 1,695,648.72, over 15 years, I needed to save $60,301.86 per year. With 3.5M, assuming a 3.25% return, I can withdraw 130,000 per year for the next 60 years and have a balance of 592.988.31. I will see some tax efficiencies when investing in state/federal bonds as part of my portfolio. I am fully confident I will not actually spend all 130k each year so I can reinvest some of the proceeds I understand I was given a leg up with the inheritance. In order to save ~60k per year, I did it through disciplined savings from my salary combined with money generated through two family businesses created during my career. These two businesses were created to control the supply chain for a family business still owned by the prior generation. I realize that I was lucky to be in the position to have an opportunity to be involved with these family businesses

How do you know when a firm is not a good fit? New associate here who has worked for less than a year at a small firm. Started as an intern, had some misgivings due to some turnover and potential financial instability at the firm, but accepted an offer anyway. I just can't shake the feeling something is off and when I'm here I feel...small. There are also management issues that have made me feel yanked around and I've been assigned cases that seem to have had big mistakes made and mismanaged.
