HOA - doing something without approval.....was planning to change my windows without hoa approval but my neighbour snitched. I came clean to the hoa and now I need to go through a 2 mo approval process and they might not even approve my windows. I paid 7k for them. I am now feeling regret for not just ignoring the hoa email and then still installing and dealing with the fine on the back end ? Thoughts? I’m also worried now that I’m on some radar. Am I overthinking this?

Idk, I would just play dumb, why would they be against your windows? The HOA is supposed to generally help improve living conditions and maintain property value of the association

Not a big deal. Be tough. HOA shows rules who follows the rules but useless for those who does not follow any rules. Tell them that you will seek legal action if they disapprove. I am not saying you will. But for the most part HOA is a pain just deal with it.

You need to read your declaration, master deed, or CCRS (whatever the governing docs are) and see what liability you may have opened yourself up to. I represent HOAs, and some are more aggressive than others. Most documents allow an HOA to fine you and then lien your property. And then possibly foreclose on the lien. It’s worth a consult from a local real estate attorney.

Is there anyone in IB at the analyst or associate level who wants to do this for life? I just can’t get why someone would subject themselves to so much torture and then have all this money but no friends or family or relationships to spend it on when you’re single and alone and depressed by 30/40?

I’ve noticed more of my peers that have less than 5 years of tax experience and some only 2-3 years of tax experience have gone off on their own and stated their own firms and have picked up plenty of clients since small businesses and individuals are underserved. There are so many resources out there to help them start and maintain their own firm in terms of operations and tax knowledge. How do firms expect people to stay in tax when they can branch off on their own making more or working less?

Insurance Defense Associate new to group. Just finished first year on the defense side after 6 years on the Plaintiff side, joined 3 weeks before lockdown. WFH with 6 and 2 year old. While billing 2k in a year with kids at home all day is nuts, you will not get better balance in a small pltff firm. Small firm partners are allergic to WFH, and can't afford to be flexible with when an associate gets to their work. The support of a larger firm is what has kept me alive this past year.
