I think you underestimate the influence of the American embassy and forget how much the government was just kowtowing to a certain orange President just a few months ago.

Americans in the UK don’t face the same barriers as folks whose countries don’t exert as much power. You can see this from the moment you land at the border and see us swiping through the formerly Brit-only e-Gates.

I would love to be added to such a group! I am having similar issues with socialising in London 😊

Why would you move to the UK and actively try to find other Americans?

Expat culture 😉

London is a lonely place! You’ll realise it soon enough. People usually use MeetUp here to find other people.

Hi Everyone,
Any suggestions on networking in the private finance sector?
I recently transitioned from public to private sector finance to be more well-rounded and I’m having a hard time connecting with people in the space. I work for a fund admin in the digital asset space for HF & PE/VC firms and I noticed how much “bro culture” seems to impact the industry. Networking is hard enough working from home but I know how important it is to make those connections.

Explain this logic: if you are fresh out of school and finish exams before starting to work- no problem. BUT once you start working you aren’t allowed to request less hours or part time because then you are weak or can’t handle it. Why must we break ourselves for this exam and our work?

For those who have obtained the CFF certification:
I was asked to put together a working plan to obtain my CFF credential. I’m aware of the 2 certificate program (Core and Specialized) through the AICPA that will lead to the CFF. Does anyone have experience in how long it would take to complete the certificates and if there are other necessary or helpful study materials that would be useful? For background, I’m 6 months into working at this firm and have touched a variety of cases.

Anyone who can recommend a driving school/package? I can see several websites such as Passmefast and Red Driving school, so not sure of how to select. I am a beginner so ideally I’d like some theory and many hours of driving lessons. I am based in East London. Cost is also a factor… the prices here are extortionate compared to my home country.

Would you ever accept a ground-floor bedroom facing the street (but set back from the pavement) in London? Residential, upscale zone 2 neighbourhood (think Victoria Park Village, East Dulwich, Fulham), but like everywhere in London, there are some rougher bits nearby. I sleep with the window open for fresh air, so I’m concerned about burglary and assault (I’m a woman). There’s the option of using an internal bedroom instead, but it’s not nearly as nice as the street-facing one.
