Honest opinion on the COVID vaccine mandates? No judgement on my part; just want to know the heartbeat of the community?

It's an evil that most people are okay to accept given the situation, but it opens A LOT of problems. Almost everytime we gave power to others to decide what an individual must do or take, or the government to decide what the people should do, it didn't end well. Hopefully it will be one of those rare cases, but I'm afraid of the precedent this open

like

Suppose that there was an epidemic of a mortal disease. Like meningitis. Suppose that half of the people don't want think that it exist. If you're someone who can decide, what would you do? Let the people suicide 'cause of ignorance or decide to impose some law to protect everyone? Politicians are nothing whitout people to rule on. But really, think about it. What would you do? I'm not saying that is the same as coivd, I only want to know what is the best choice.

The vaccine is safe and effective. Discuss with your doctor, and if you are comfortable with getting the vaccine, then do so. I read over the information, discussed with my doctor, and had the Pfizer shots. I also believe it is wrong and grossly unethical to use coercion to make people take the vaccine under duress.

It's a necessity to protect lives and prevent further loss of life especially if we plan to return to some semblance of normality as a planet.

I’m not 100% sure I’m for a mandate but I believe if you don’t get the vaccine for non medical reasons, you shouldn’t be allowed to take up hospital space. Fight it at home on your own.

likefunny

Did the car accident give you covid? I don’t think so.

I think people who oppose vaccine mandates on principle and mask mandates and complain about life not going back to normal are deluded in the role they play and should be made poster children of the problem with society and lack of critical thinking skills. They’ve proven they’re immune to shame, so they should be fine being the example.

like

I think it’s going to be interesting when the 4th, 5th, 6th booster is mandated. Curious what people are going to be willing to go along with before they say enough is enough. Same thoughts on when the mandates start coming out for 5 year olds. Will parents line up their kids for the shot or will their risk/reward calculation be different.

I am 100% not getting my 5yo vaccinated

Now that we know that vaccines aren’t even 90% effective in preventing covid I don’t see the point of this. We shouldn’t be going back to the office regardless of the vaccination status.

I was deeply affected by them. I was required to get one for work. I developed major myopericarditis from my vaccination and was hospitalized. Doctors indicated there was damage to my heart. I may never be 100% what I was prior to this happening. I am 30 with perfect health markers prior. I'm not a fan.

I hope you are doing better now.

Overrated in the sense that I think it’s pretty unlikely any of us can run from Covid forever, even if vaccinated and surrounded by vaccinated people. Coronaviridae don’t create lasting sterilizing immunity and we shouldn’t expect their vaccines to behave differently. Breakthroughs are likely in the long-run for all of us, though thankfully vaccinated (and previously-infected) people should very rarely face severe outcomes from those breakthroughs. In other words, I think we need to think about this virus and its immunity as more akin to its coronavirus cousins (there are four others in wide human circulation) and less like Measles. Vaccine mandates are useful as a mechanism to increase vaccination rates and reduce hospitalization burden, but we shouldn’t overhype them as the ultimate tool to keep case numbers down forever. That likely just isn’t something that will _ever_ happen. They’ll also decline in utility as we get closer and closer to 100% seroconverted (i.e., either vaccinated or previously infected).

I’m pro vax, but i am on the fence. I understand both sides… I believe in an individual’s right to decide what to put in their bodies. On the flip side, I also believe private companies have the right to decide who and who doesn’t work for them. It is still a slippery slope.

Agreed.

Very much against mandates and strict requirements to be vaxxed for daily life. I am vaccinated myself because I think it makes sense but wouldn’t want to pressure others. There are crucial differences to the childhood vaccinations which makes the analogy a bit shady: 1) the childhood ones have been in use for decades and their impact is very well known, as is their long-term effectiveness 2) there is increasing evidence that the Covid vaccines have limited protection against infection (or that it very quickly wanes). They do protect v well against severe cases, which means that the vaccination should be a personal choice - it is much more for your own safety than for others people’s sake 3) the diseases that the childhood vaccinations protect against are orders of magnitude more dangerous than Covid across the population so mandates for your own good are more easily justifiable I think it’s time we just lifted requirements (at least in countries where access to vaccines is easy) and start treating covid as endemic. People who have not been vaccinated by now are unlikely to change their mind and mandates only risk radicalising them more

Strongly agreed on the treating it as endemic point

I'm worried about the people who are losing jobs because they won't get vaccinated. Given the political climate, some may be pushed over the edge and become violent.

you were vaccinated before you go to school... what's the big deal. I never get why people would actually believe the conspiracy theories. I mean... think!

I’ve been living in my parents basement during COVID and it has relapsed my anxiety/depression. I decided to go back to where I actually live (NYC) and my parents are helping me move. His concerns were valid but his text was extremely harsh and mean. Now it sent my anxiety off the charts 😩😩
