We are in the health profession, I'm not sure what else you expect. What kind of example would we be setting if we refused to take all of the recommended precautionary steps.

likehelpful

Odd, many healthcare workers 40+ lbs. over weight, who are so sedentary they cannot even tell you which direct a gym is located, who eat poorly, and do not take vitamins, want to tell others what proper healthy precautions are.....

Then given that the last 7 studies demonstrate that over 50% of health care workers claim they would not give it to their children, it is a stretch to claim it is "the recommended precautionary step". Particularly given all of the recent data

I understand that it may be frustrating, but workplaces can mandate whatever they want. You aren't forced to follow their rules, but if you don't you may not keep your employment. I think it's something that people don't usually think about (unless you work somewhere with a very intense dress or behavioral code), but with vaccines, it's become more clear. Especially in private healthcare, or healthcare in general, they can require whatever they want.

like

FFS just get the vaccine, you're in health care, you chose to be in health care. We are required to be up to date with our vaccines and our jobs are literally to take care of people. You don't want to get vaccinated, cool 👍 go get a job that's not patient facing and stop whining.

like

We work in healthcare, therefore vaccines are mandatory. I don't know why there has to be a discussion about it.

like

I honestly don’t want to work with anyone that won’t be fully vaccinated.

like

Why exactly?

You do have a choice. Either you get vaccinated or you get to look for another job. I really don't understand the hesitation of getting the vaccine by those people who work in healthcare.

It’s not a vaccine though……..

I can respect how you feel which I know a lot of people feel the same. However I have never looked at this any differently than other work requirements. I’ve had to get tb tests and yearly health assessments in the past. They have records for my past immunization records. It just is what it is. And now I work remote but I’m still required which I appreciate since we come in to the office occasionally and recently resumed company events. I feel extremely comfortable around my coworkers

If they get money from the government for services rendered through Medicare or Medicare the systems hands are being tied by the government. They must require this to get that payment. So in many cases health systems would not be able to operate without those dollars.

So while many blame work places its not necessarily their fault.

like

Sad but true. CMS is so large that they essentially create law across the health care industry by delivering edicts handed down from a very small board.

I’m fine with it. Until I sign my own checks, it’s no different than anything else they require of me that I may or may not like.

You're late to the party. I agree, though. No one should be forced to get a medical procedure - especially if they can show they have natural immunity.

like

Tell me how many times have you gotten a cold in your life? Its been 2 years; not unusual to get a second infection in that time frame esp since they are now pushing a 4th booster and admitting it has a very short duration of efficacy. I'm sorry, but since when in the history of medicine do we need to get a vaccine that does nothing to prevent the spread, protect the person from getting infected or even prevent them from dying. If you recall she said its her second time getting the virus, so clearly it didn't kill her the first time so why should she concern herself with getting the vaccine at all if she is confident in her immune system protecting her and not having to suffer the ill effects that the CDC has now admitted the vaccine can cause. The new variants are nothing more than common colds.

It should be a personal choice. Our hospital tried mandating it and a lot of people walked. They ended up allowing religious exemptions.

like

That is a choice.

like

My current job is if you don't do it, test weekly

In my state I heard a hospital allowed for religious exemptions and the people have to test every 2 weeks.

At my job they required even the remote workers to get the vaccine series AND the boost. Even the contractors had to get the vaccine.

I applied for accommodations because my cardiologist recommended against the vaccine for me and i was denied; for this i was terminated, while a co-worker did not follow any of the rules and is still employed- she did not request accommodations, does not get tested weekly and did not get vaccinated-this is discrimination-in my opinion.

I think if the Business (yes most hospitals and clinics are just profit making machines who could care less about your employee rights) participates in Medicare or a State Medicaid program they are mandated to have all their employees vaccinated or else face being excluded which is an important funding source for these businesses to make profits for their investors, owners, and stock holder

What are your firms' most ridiculous rules? I've worked with insurance defense firms that prohibited their associates from closing their office doors so they couldn't talk to friends or headhunters. Another basically barred them from going out to lunch for the same reason. On the rare occasion they went out to lunch, the associates had to fill out a form detailing (1) where they were going and (2) with whom, and the managing partner would call the restaurant to double-check.

How far do you live from your office / where you practice? I’m a solo with a land use / zoning practice. I’ve always lived in the same city I worked. Unrelated to Covid, my city has moved all filing and permitting to online systems which means I only have to be in person about 4-6 days a month. I’m thinking about moving about 40 minutes outside the city (and potentially as much as 1.5 hrs from evening meetings). Reasonable? Way too far?
