Honestly, I am not OK paying for the wall. Mexico will not reimburse us. They have been clear On their stance. Can't we shift that money elsewhere? Seriously.

All the US has to do is send an itemized invoice, attach receipts and provide the Mexicans our checking account number and routing number. Mexico will do a direct deposit

There will be no wall.

1 million fewer Trump supporters could be quite the investment

The wall won't work anyways- illegal immigration is from visa overstays, not desert border crossings. Even if you want to stop illegal immigration this is a waste of money!

Lord, anyone who actually thought Mexico and not taxpayers were going to pay for the wall 🙄 Up to $14B wasted on a problem that has been declining for years.

The Great Wall of china is the longest cemetery on earth. It is estimated that one million people died during the build of it. Not sure what the return on investment for that is K1...

like

No need to build a wall. Much cheaper to use Predator drones. It's also more in line with Mexico's own policies on their southern border.

like

Food for thought (no supportive of a wall per se but hear me out) I wonder if America made a wall similar to the Great Wall of China, how much would this boost tourism to the south? I think it would be cool to visit the Great Wall of China. I'm not sure how much the Great Wall of China cost, but I would be curious if they made back their investment based on tourism to China

like

I think the wall is ridiculous. All the more reason I don't wanna pay for it. I mean we have other priorities to spend our money on... not a wall.

like

Good insight @EY1, I did not know that. On a lighter note, I talked to my buddy from the future and he told me that America just builds a bunch of electric fences and not a wall

like

Dd1, yes, but a future president can scale back on use of drones, it would be a lot harder to bulldoze a wall

The Great Wall of 'Murica!

like

A whole $5-$10billion? Honestly pennies when it comes to the fed govt.

Right so you're totally fine with the wall as a concept, you just don't want to pay for it out of your tax dollars?

Build a wall, and they will just build tunnels. Also, people forget that illegals still spend money here and contribute to the economy. Worry about the people who are here legally.

Rubber suits > electric fences :)

@EY1 adding to that. Most of the bodies are buried around the area by the Great Wall of China, not inside or under it like most people think. It would collapse otherwise.

Curious what others risk tolerance / budget is for primary housing expense. Currently looking at houses and what I ‘can’ afford according to the math feels like way more house than I ‘should’ buy. For reference I’m a B4 7th yr partner. Last year total comp was around $1.8 and total other monthly fixed expenses are in the $20k/mo neighborhood. Just wondering how others approach this. Thanks.

Recently switched jobs and need advice on 401K.

1) I have both Roth and traditional 401K. Can't change traditional 401K to Traditional IRA as I backdoor Roth and it complicates things.

3) what would you invest in?

FID Target 2055: 26%,

So my bipolar dad got declined for a mortgage because disability gets shut off in < 3 years when he turns 65. So now he wants me to co-sign for him. Between housing markets being up, my concerns over his money mgmt, and concerns over tying up my credit there’s no way I can say yes. He sold his house before being approved for the new one he put in for (against my advice). I know he won’t understand and will take this personally, and the family will probably take his side. I’d love honest reactions to help ease my mind. I’ve been paying lower rent (like 1400) in HCOL city last few years. Finally debt free from grad school as of this year. Total comp is now low 200k. Does 2800 for rent (im looking at new leases this week) feel high? Moderate? Just want a pulse check on if I’m being reasonable with the 2800, compared to how others think about it. I think it’s ok given HCOL and I now work from home. Disclaimer: this isn’t humble brag stuff. I just want real advice.
