Honestly I cringe when I read “I got my dream job at the Big4” from new college graduates. Those same ones are the ones on here now complaining heavily about said dream job. 🥴 . Sorry I’m just being honest.

It’s all relative. For someone coming from modest income family, maybe a big4 is a big stepping stone for them. Not everyone can afford to go to Harvard, Yale and land a MBB or FAANG job.
I was so happy when I got my first job that pays $50k/yr at a no-name 5 people company. Because before that, I work for minimum wage to get through school and so is the people surrounding me. I thought I got to middle class with that income and was definitely landing a dream job.

Oh hi that’s me. Took some time away from school and I really didn’t see myself in as a high paying job as I am now. My growth has been exponential because of the b4 I joined.
23k > 35k > 95k

Agree the posts are cringe but, Big4 is a great place to start your career.

like

I don’t disagree with it being a good place to start I just cringe at the dream part thing 🥴🥴🥴. Like no worries son, give it a few months and that’ll change

It’s cringe, but landing your first job out of college is a major milestone. And many schools/firms heavily sell b4 as your best option coming out of an accounting program. They’re not jaded yet, let them celebrate.

like

I get where you’re coming from, but just because you’re cynical/jaded now doesn’t mean you should be judging others for being excited for (probably) their 1st salaried job at a well known company. I’m jaded af too now after 5 yrs but remember the feeling cause I was so poor and am the 1st in my family to graduate from college

like

I would not use dream job and big 4 in the same sentence.

As far as first jobs go, it's not bad. I imagine they mean "my top choice of the options available to me during recruitment" when they say dream job.

I think the bigger point I am trying to make is colleges make Big4 seem like it’s an amazing place and doesn’t come with the amount of stress that it does. It’s easy to say work this much at a young age but from what over seen, plenty of people had that mind set and now mentally they’re all over the place. That’s my point. No hate on Big4

My dream job used to be KPMG because it was the first time I’d heard of consulting my senior year of college and I had no idea what it was. The people I met initially were great. However after 3 years of working that sparkle faded and I hated every bit of it and the people I worked with changed and made me not like it. It happens.

Dream job at the big 4? Are we that highly regarded?

Funny how the circle of complaining works…

😂

It's pretty human for a new grad to find real life to be a rude awakening. Growing pains. Let them complain. It affords you the opportunity to smack them down and amuse yourself when doing so.

Advice plz.
I was given a verbal offer from a firm. The base salary offered was much lower than my min expectation, so they offering a sign on bonus to get me closer. I asked them to see how much closer they can get me to my minimum target. They came back with a slightly higher signing bonus but the base salary didn’t budge. It’s still not my min salary requirement.
This is all over the phone.
They are sending me written offer soon.
Can I still ask for more because the base salary isn't great.

What do you do when one spouse really wants to go on a weekend trip but the other really does not want to go? My mother worked at night so I'd go to a babysitter at night and then go to school from there. I shared my babysitter's teenaged daughter's bedroom (along with 3 other kids who I don't remember if they were other night babysitter kids or the grandchildren of the babysitter.

Once when I was 12 the babysitter's daughter snuck her boyfriend in and they had s€x - right in front of me. At 12 I was the oldest kid in the room. The others were like 4,6,8 years old. CONTINUED

I come from an immigrant family and I really envy the All-American/Hamptons going/Finance/WASPY people I’ve met. Something about that lifestyle just feels so….fulfilling. Like they’ve reached every single goal anyone would ever want to, and now they can enjoy it and spend their money any way they want. I guess it feels like the idealistic representation of American living.

I’ve been with my company for a long time, the culture is wearing on me. I have moved up to a higher level, so I’m not sure it’s that or there is something grossly wrong. Im finding out leadership just beats on people. Im wondering if this is normal, or if there is something better. I feel like they just love to find how people messed up, rather than how we can improve. They say they want transparency, but get mad when you say what they don’t want to hear. Im exhausted.
