Hoping to move to Atlanta this year. What are some good areas to rent an apartment for 6 months... budget is 1000-1300 .... and then hoping to buy a house .. budget 350k... what locations should I consider?

Depends on what you’re looking for but I would suggest Midtown to rent if you don’t have kids. Brookhaven or Sandy springs to buy. If you have kids- Alpharetta, John’s creek, Sandy springs to buy.

If you are any age > 25 you probably will not like Buckhead. My advice? East of 75/85 and try to be within 4-6 miles of your future office (if you will be working there) traffic can be miserable. That said, Marta is getting a lot better. Few good neighborhoods.
- Va Highlands “Highlands” are great but $$$
- Ansley: close to midtown, can likely find condo but even more $$$$$
- Midtown: sky rises and also residential neighborhoods. Cannot afford a house at $350K in this neighborhood but likely a condo around 1300
- O4W: condos, apartments, townhomes, gentrification central. Getting harder to find a home at $350K
- Inman Park/Candler Park: tbh out of your given price range but maybe a condo?

Generally the more east you go, the cheaper. This includes Kirkwood, Lake Claire, Grant Park, East Atlanta Village “EAV”. EAV is the most likely to meet your budget for a home and apartment. Atlanta is more budget friendly than NYC or SF, but getting pricier and $1K (or $350K) will be difficult to find in many areas.

Also a little further out is Decatur. An “ITP” suburb that is very close to the city. Getting pricier but has a variety of price points.

Also, welcome down south! Register to vote!

True! May be difficult to find. I had one 3 years ago in a mid-rise building.

Rent in VA highlands/along the Beltline. Best appreciation for buying is in west midtown (or westside..). Best vibe for buying (but pricey) is south buckhead (garden hills area) or candler park area. Northern burbs (Alpharetta/JC) are for when your kids get past elementary school.

VaHi, O4W, Inman Park, Reynoldstown

Based upon your criteria, follow the BeltLine

Buckhead is pretentious, avoid like plague

If you like Kayaking and biking, look in near the Chattahoochee River/ Vinings area. Not as expensive there and near more outdoor things. All the best trails are further up 75, so it is an easier drive. Not as potato live there, since most of the really peopley/fun stuff is in town. It seems to fit your lifestyle and budget.

There are some new shopping areas there and the bars next to the new Braves stadium (I've heard) are good.

Buckhead if you like the nightlife.

Maybe if you like the nightlife as a 22 y/o...

I think you can get some good ideas here, but to the point above, what are you looking for?

25 f here - I recently moved to Buckhead and love it! I’m walking distance from the grocery store, gym, coffee shops, restaurants, and the MARTA. My rent is just under 1300.

Don’t have any kids yet ... we do enjoy nightlife , outdoors, occasional bike rides and kayaking, I guess the only major requirement at this point in time is would love to be close to restaurants and shopping centers

For longer bike rides Stone Mountain trail is easily accessible from the beltline and Silver Comet by car farther to the west

Somewhere along the beltline - like old fourth ward or grant park!

For anyone who needs to hear this today to keep motivation up- when I started my side gig, I didn’t know if it would ever take off. Wasn’t sure if digital courses are a thing. Wasn’t sure if it can truly be passive. And now, while I was interviewing for a job, an order popped into my inbox. Not the first time, not the last time, but the frequency is steadily increasing. Paid, fulfilled on spot. Of course you have to do the work, but the days when you feel like giving up, remember why you started

Help! My wife treats our dog like a baby.. always wants to take it out to restaurants and when we are there, she talks to it like a person talks to a baby. Becomes so involved with the dog and it's like she's checked out from the occasion and makes every conversation revolve around the dog. At times it's embarrassing how she speaks to him given that she's also in her mid 30s. Worse, she doesn't seem to care about my feelings toward it.

Looking for recommendations: off-road/4x4 paths near the perimeter.

So my current situation: living ITP but recently bought a 4x4 Taco and want to make sure I maintain the system by running it on some dirt. Total beginner to off-road, not looking for anything technical (don’t have recovery equipment yet), so mainly just looking for an unpaved area I can run the 4x4 for a bit. I understand i’ll probably have to venture a bit OTP but any recommendations are welcomed! TIA
