A lot of post about working in tech seem to focus on two things: making six figures and (unlimited) PTO policies. These things are great but with the recent wave layoffs and uncertainties about what retirement is going to look like moving forward what is something that you’re doing with that tech paycheck now that may not have an immediate benefit but is focused on planning for the future?

I received an offer I can’t turn down. My company had a few others leave recently, and my close counterpart is on vacation until October, so the GC and rest of the company will likely be in disarray after I leave.

Scenario: you are on PTO. The dates were cleared with the manager and partner a month in advance, and you reminded your team the week before and on the Friday before. You have no plans while on PTO and are theoretically available. Monday morning, the client sends a meeting request to discuss something primarily handled by you. Do you join the meeting?

I accepted a new job, they said PTO was “generous.” I find out it’s 19 days a year of PTO (which includes sick days). I have two young children and we like to vacation 1-2x a year (no more than a few days away each time). Am I crazy that this is pretty limited time off? 8 of the normal holidays off during the year (working the week between Christmas and NYE). Thoughts? I dont know if lack of PTO is a good reason to back out, is it?

What are some easy to make, low stress holiday meals for a school holiday staff party? I was "volunteered" by our principal to set it up this year (🙄).
