There was a sell off? I only check my stock market investments once or twice a year. It helps me ignore all the noise

If you don’t sell, it’s not a loss

like

They are on sale if you buy more.

These kids who still thinks stocks only go up….

like

What sell off? Every major tech stock is still near an all time high.

like

This simply means your portfolio is too heavily weighted towards tech. You may consider diversifying more. We're barely 2 or so percent off the peak...

like

Some percentage points off after a monstrous run up. If that’s what you call a selloff then you haven’t really seen a selloff my friend. Do you expect stocks to just keep going up?

like

Just wait and see.

If we did the after tax voluntary contribution (with the intention to roll it over to back door Roth) but don’t get it rolled over before the year ends, what happens? Can we do it after Jan 1? If not, is that now just a separate retirement account w our employer (did mine w McKinsey, after maxing out Roth $19500)

I’m seeing lots of posts about really bad losses. If you trade you’re going to lose money - hopefully not all the time, but many positions will be mistakes. But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.

I know I took out the loans and I should repay them and I’m normally fiscally conservative and against giving out free money. But I am hoping student loans get completely cancelled. It would greatly boost the economy if people do not have them hanging over their heads. However, forgiving what is currently there won’t help long term if the predatory practices around student loans aren’t fixed along with soaring tuition prices and salaries for administrators.

Need advice on buying my first home. I recently moved to Canada and like living in downtown city vibes. I’m looking for a 2Bed and really confused if putting all my savings and 60% of salary towards mortgage payments for 1.2M condos is worth it. Does it make sense to buy condos with all those monthly fees and live in city or buy a house around GTA for much less ? Which is better from an appreciation and resale point of view ?

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.

How do you get out of work “ruts”? I’ve been in a work rut for going on 1.5 months now and I can’t seem to get out of it. I’m an account executive and luckily the business is still coming in and I’m staying busy, but I’ve just been feeling lazy…. I’ve let things fall through the cracks. I’m not working extra hours like I use to, or working with any sense of “urgency”. I use to jump out of bed every morning to go to work. This isn’t typical me…

What have you done to get out of work ruts?

Not really a question, but maybe I’ll hit FIRE early since of the roughly ~20 or so stocks i keep in my portfolio, 3 of them were a substantial GME position I entered in September (and exited in the midst of the craze thankfully), RKT (expecting mortgage lenders to do well in the buying craze) and L Brands 😳. Never thought I’d hit 3x

What’s your recommendation if my new 401k does not accept pension rollover? I think the only 2 roll over options left are traditional/Roth IRA, right?
