Any other black attorney feeling enraged and hopeless today. I’ve been brutalized by the police before. And I’m supposed to work without question today. The events last week have triggered a reoccurring flood of feelings. I tried to put an away message up saying I was taking the day for personal reasons and I still was asked to do work. Today I had a meeting with my team which has know since July that I’m pregnant and will not be around for busy season (Jan-Feb). This one manager on the team who probably is like second in charge but is super concentrated in what she does, keeps bringing up that my coworker and I will be out on leave during the busy time of the year. I have a 6 month old, and I am 6.5 years out from law school. I would like to start trying to have another kid at the end of this year but feel if I wait a couple of more years to switch firms, no one will consider me since I'll be 8.5-9 years out and trying to break into a new practice area.
