While I can’t speak for how firms are managing it, the rules have been changed on a one off basis allowing for new grads to practice under supervision of a licensed attorney without having taken the bar.

I am sick and tired of everyone telling me that praying is the only way to get rid of depression. This is the reason why I have to pretend like everything is fine around other people. Just because I don’t go to church every Sunday, does not mean that’s the reason I’m depressed. I was five seconds away from snapping when I was told this. They act like seeing a psychologist is the worst thing to do.

Hello all. Hope you all are fine. My friend has about 1.5 years of experience in Liquidity Reporting and looking for a job change. I joined a new firm back in January and I’m still having some slow periods from time time to time. I am getting work but it ebbs and flows regularly enough that I’m not consistently billing 8 hrs but usually bill a minimum of 4. My plan is to discuss this with the partners I work for when I return from my honeymoon in July as that will be just past my 6 month mark. Any downside to waiting? The guilt is hitting me hard today.

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

So I'm finally doing it, I'm starting my own firm in the next couple months.

Questions about conflicts of interest going forward. If I switch from defence and representing insurance companies, to plaintiff work, do I have a conflict because I previously was doing work for the insurance company? Or is it just those individuals that I've represented? (the ones being sued directly)

Hi Everyone- I’m going solo soon after four years of being GC. Our company was sold to private equity so there wasn’t really much of a place for a GC anymore. I figured I would fulfill my lifelong dream of opening my own practice. ANYHOW- I have business and employment set up as my primary fields, but I’m curious what fields are fun, that would really lend themselves to solo work, or just be interesting to practice in. Thanks!

Small firm owners need pov! Some good news after almost 11 months of applying and interviews and lots of rejections finally got an offer! In NYC small firm, ex big law folks, no billable hours, niche practice area, appearance of forwarded thinking firm, remote till who knows when, emphasis on pro bono initiatives and building book of business. The catch salary. Was making around 140k at last firm with 1800 billable. Offer is 85k and revist to bump to around 100k in several months after review

Any suggestions for an organizational/organization expert, coach, or someone that helps with getting firms organized? We need to be more efficient and have better systems in place.

Brief problem: We feel that we (partners) are unorganized, and as a result our staff is following the same disorganized structure and we’re not getting as much work/tasks completed as we should.

I need someone to help whip us into shape.

Looking for advice on what to do with clients if I want to go in-house. We have 5 other attorneys so as of now my clients could likely be absorbed into the rest of the law firm. However if 1-2 of the attorneys here left that wouldn’t be an option. Has anyone done this and have tips?I don’t have an offer yet but I’m trying to prepare. My firm knows I’m exploring this as a career option.

I’ve only done real estate transactional work at firms and want to open shop doing primarily that but my interest has always been in litigation. TL;DR: having trouble fitting in with the rest of the attorneys in my firm being super young compared to the rest of them. Not sure how to navigate.

Just started in June at a small firm where I’m the 7th attorney. I’m a K-JD and just passed the bar in August (🥳), making this my first real law job. The next associate is 10 years older than me. Everyone has spouses and at least one kid. All they talk about is said spouses and kids. I have none of that. Being social w/them is super hard. Help?

Venting… I had a PC reach out last week for services (commercial real estate) who proceeded to tell me that their project is going to make me the “gold standard” , so rich and etc. further they wanted me to send them a plan of everything needed for all the phases of development and an estimated cost. The call completely drained me and rubbed me the wrong way. Then they brought up my age and me being younger, saying it’s an opportunity of a life time. It felt extremely condescending.
