I honestly feel like I could teach a class on this. I have always been WFH, even pre-Covid, hours away from the closest company office. I have grown my personal network by cold-emailing employees that I want to meet and asking to set up 20 min get-to-know-you calls. I review their resume or LI before the call, prepare questions, and have an elevator speech ready for whatever I want them to learn about me or I want to get out of the call. I’m a Senior Associate and have done this with Managers up to Partners. I’m successful about 70% of the time. Most people are willing to help or, at the very least, talk about themselves for 20 mins. There are obviously other ways to network (BD, proposals, firm initiatives, etc.) but this has been the fastest and most targeted way to meet people I’m interested in.

Thanks GT1 - this is really helpful!

HR-organized zoom “happy” hours, obvi.

Meeting a lot more people due to all the PRD and pipeline development work going on. Good exposure to some powerful PPMDs in the region/sector who are trying themselves not to get the boot.

I’ve become more connected wfh than I was in the office, but I’m also on a small team, we didn’t interact much in the office, and my manager is in a different city. Just try to ask the right questions to the right people with technology. One connection will lead to another, then another, etc.

Fellow Fishes, currently I'm serving NP and my current firm just offered permanent wfh to me. I have an offer from the Big4 and I'm pretty sure my current firm would match that offer and retain me. What should I do? I never considered the permanent wfh variable in my decision and now it has changed everything.
