How are there people with rent in manhattan under 1.5k?? Even with roommates, are these like near ground level, walk-ups, what's going on here?

You need to have 2 or more roommates, divvy up bedrooms based on square footage, and take the smallest one, which is often a flex.

I’ve done this for 8 years straight in NYC and have never paid over $1.4k. Some of the apartments were luxury buildings too with doormen. It’s definitely doable.

I would look at off-campus Facebook groups (e.g. NYU, Columbia, FIT) and find people there who are also looking for 3 bedroom or more apartments.

Agreed. I lived in a top floor luxury building unit as a recent grad for $1.2K a month with two other roommates. This is very very common

Just depends where you look. You can get studios under $2k in the UES.

Just because it’s a walk up doesn’t mean it’s not we’ll maintained. I lived in one previously and didn’t have any issues. Actually liked not having the doorman know everyone’s business. “Luxury” buildings are obviously more expensive.

Yes they are walk ups, 3rd floor and higher and farther from subway.

Splitting with SO doorman building 1250$ each

You lucky dog! I’m paying $4,300 But it is a really nice building and unbeatable location

My uncle has had a rent stabilized apartment since the 90s and pays around this for 2br/2ba with a separate dining room too. Not a walk up either.

Get an SO and split a 1-bed.

Try lower East side walk up

I luckily found my apartment on a Facebook housing group then did rent negotiations with my current landlord.

Please share the group name

Low floor walk ups shared with 3 to 4 people and some living rooms flexed into bedrooms

2 other roommates, true UES, 3 min to subway, central AC, in unit w/d, $1395 each

How do I get a job as a Mechanical Engineer if I dont have experience?

I couldn’t get an internship while in school. I have a BS in ME and projects from school under my belt. I’ve also passed the FE exam. I’ve been mostly just doing CAD for a company for the last year by creating minimally dimensioned drawings and moving parts around in assemblies. I want to evolve in my career and be doing more. I worked so hard to earn my degree and I feel like I’m not even using it. But who will hire me?

Got an offer at ZS for Consultant, and recruiter said it's the highest they can do for C. (165k plus COLA for NYC) and 15k signing.
My question is that this is the highest what kind of raises can one get, and how much target bonus is realistic at C level? 7YOE, M1 at Big 4.

I’ve got about 8.5 years and still struggle with dealing with friends who get drunk and are complete assholes. I know I should have empathy but I just want to kick their ass. What I should do is Thank God (agnostic) I am sober today. If I was drinking I would have kicked his ass, faced the consequences, made amends, and lost friend(s).

Hello! I’m doing an “eat the alphabet” activity with my friend where each letter red presents a country, I.e. Anyone have recommendations for a Oaxacan, not just Mexican, restaurant that is also affordable? Thanks!

What is with landlords requiring a guarantor even when you make 40x the rent….. it’s incredibly classist (even more than the 40x rent rule). Not all us have rich parents, and even if I did - I’m 25 and financially independent…..
