This is what happens when consultants try to take flashy new technology and apply it to areas where they have no domain expertise.
Perhaps we should find a way to add some blockchain to the deicing solution? Or better yet: if we put the plane in the cloud?
Lot of weight in those hoses. Perhaps a temporary deicing hangar. Effectively an adjustable car wash for planes
I don’t think the problem is so much icing while the plane is at a standstill, it’s that icing occurs during takeoff which impacts the flight characteristics (drag, lift, etc.). Also, I’m sure there’s risk that the hydraulic flaps could ice over as well
And for those green fish out there, it is also extremely terrible for the environment
A1, icing during takeoff is taken care of by bleed air (hot air routed from engines to wing surfaces)
Deicing is needed because bleed air isn’t terribly effective when snow/ice are accumulated on the wing/surfaces
Eliminate the need for de-icing in the first place. Use drones to blow warm air across the wings when parked - energy consumed is probably less than the energy needed to deice
Chill M1, trying to make conversations more interesting than “how many points” or “how do I switch firms” type of stuff. Bit indeed, its those consultants, mba’s, etc that eventually find good applications for these “flashy” technologies or even the more simpler ones like P1 suggested
A1 the
^exactly right. Deicing is a gel like fluid applied to prevent ice accumulation during flight activities. If you increase the weight of an aircraft it’s takeoff and landing parameters change. This has caused a couple of crashes in the 80s because new eight wasn’t accounted for and jets ran out of runway after hitting V1
Again, 15 min ignorantly contemplating the deicing issue, can’t let it go 😂
^suppose one way to make it more efficient is to put aircraft through a structure with automated nozzles....but quality could be affected due to varying sizes of aircraft and lack of human eye perception of exterior ice accumulation. As starters above, deicing is CTQ because people may die if you don’t. Aviation has a history of mistakes that led to the establishment or changes of process. So it’s likely the existing method that works best and is most cost efficient.
