I'd work on setting boundaries. Easier said than done, and if a junior in a busy group, that just might be tough. Generally speaking though, you should not be working on Holidays pending some fire drill.
Nothing NEEDS to get done tomorrow.
Ugh, as we all know the cog doesn't stop spinning even when Christmas comes, so what I'm trying to do is just slow it down a bit. I try to set boundaries with clients and fellow associates by not making/answering phone calls certain times of the day, or emails, or I get up earlier or stay up later than I normally would to be able to dedicate more time to family. It's not ideal, but it helps me stay sane. Good luck in managing it all over the holidays :)
If you’re in a free market staffing system, you can attempt to orchestrate a lighter slate of deals our the holidays. So far I’ve been successful each year at billing heavily in the fall to build up hours, letting those deals sign/close by thanksgiving or early December, and then refusing/avoiding work that would extend into Christmas/NYE. I’m sure that eventually this strategy will fail (for example, if a deal gets delayed significantly into the holidays), but so far so good.
Much easier to avoid being staffed in the first place than avoiding task on a deal you’ve already joined.
I am somewhere in the middle...clients are kinda all over the place so I find some days I'm just crazy stressed and other times I'm chilling. Trying to follow something similar to A2 where I time things to fall at a certain point to keep the holidays clear. It does feel relentless at times!
Have your boundaries. This time of the year is very busy and you do have responsibilities and obligations in your role but don't set aside a certain amount of time to do work and do not exceed that time.
I try my best to manage my time. I make sure to finish all my deliverables so I won't get caught up during the holidays. I've been really exhausted but I am looking forward to spend time with my family without any work-related worry.
Do what you can with the time the company provides you to work. If you can’t produce what they need in the time frame they set, than either the expectations are off due to previous employees doing extra production outside of working hours or you need to work on your time management skills. 9/10 times the goals/quotas are not correct due to previous employees doing extra work outside of working hours causing the company to think that type of production is doable in a regular work day.
It reminds me of the story of the Hippo 🦛
A Hippopotamus was not Satisfied with being just a Hippo.
The Hippo would think , “I am more than this, i can do more!” So he Tried to Paint stripes on his skin to be like the Zebra! But he Wasnt Fooling anyone. He even put spots on his Skin to be like the LeoPard, but everyone Knows he is a Hippo! At a Certain Point he looked himself in the Mirro and said “ Hey!! I aM a Hippopotamus, And There Is Nothing I Can Do About IT!” As soon as he Accepted this he Lived life Happy.
HAPPY AS A HIPPO!!
