I make myself “unavailable” to period sub. Their lack of planning is not my emergency. I need my planning period.
Me too!! If I didn’t need my prep I’d teach an extra class!
We all have to cover for each other. Even though we get paid, we lose our prep time. It’s hard.
Where I am, they are pulling specialists to sub - classroom teachers work their preps and get paid extra. So far, they haven’t pulled me 😊

Will admit, district stepped up & sent admins w/credentials into secondary classrooms ... still in awe!! Great to see Asst Sup for Instruction in a classroom!!

For those of you who get paid for covering during your conference period what amount do you make? Does the amount you earn depend on anything?
We make our hourly rate.
This is a funny issue… I’ve been called to sub during my conference period 4 x last week… I inquired with the secretary if possibly another teacher could sub instead because she has 2 planning periods off…her response was she can’t be called to sub since she’s exceeded her limits.. i inquired how many x did she sub and they said 3. I’m confused of why she has a limit and other teachers are at their disposal…. Favoritism…. Is setting in.. hmmmm.

“... at their disposal ... “ Watch your district contract carefully, should state guaranteed prep for a secondary FTE. Stand on it, site should an agreed upon sub plan ...
My principal covers our class if she has to, but we’ve been quite lucky w/ subs. The beginning of the year was though.
