McKinsey & Company Any advice to help prepare for data science analyst role at top consulting firms (McKinsey & Company EY Boston Consulting Group etc)? Any materials, open source platform recommended to take on freelance data science project? When should I start actively looking and applying? I am a new grad who is working in tech as a marketing analyst I’m looking to pivot to marketing& sales data science consulting next year. I’d always turn down a counter offer. They know you’re a flight risk now and will keep you on until they can find a replacement. You have a target on your back at your current role
Ok, thanks. I guess in their eyes it isn’t different. I don’t want to screw this company over, so will just avoid signing and hope I get the second offer
If you needed an offer to get a raise, they're basically admitting that they were under paying you in proportion to your value.

I would check with your state laws. It can sometimes be a felony and you don’t want that in your record.

Imo, snarky responses help with truly absurd questions like I got an 500k offer at meta at 2yoe but I really like my colleagues at my Deloitte job that pays me 85k, should I switch? But this is a genuine question and it doesn’t deserve snark imvho

I feel it's always worth leaving. I value different experiences to grow my career over any sort of pay match / bump from my current company.
Plus, the only reason your current company is willing to try to pay you more is because you threatened to leave. I always loathed that mentality. A company should want to keep me before I threaten to leave. But I'd also like to live in a land filled with rainbows and unicorns ...
Always leave. Use the counter as leverage if need be, but never accept it.

I used to be of this mindset, but the way some big tech companies work retention grant don’t really count against you..
Not bad to decline due to a better offer but wouldn’t recommend staying with existing company after getting a counter. It rarely works out and they’ll view you as one foot out the door.

Bad, not unheard of. I'd do it. Put yourself first - not a company you don't even know yet.
Take the offer that suits you better even if you accepted one already. Take care of you.

I guess not! They were a few years apart for two diff roles..
I think it depends on how far into the process are you, respectfully declining with a little bit of leway until your start date should be fine
