1) you can get more space for your money 2) the buildings are more charming and better managed IMO 3) I find doormen often are more trouble than help (at least at my old building). Walk ups are just more homey I think

2bd, 1 bath on Upper West for $3100. It's a COVID special, and could be as much as $4500 if COVID hadn't flipped everything on its head for a while. No doorman, but it has an elevator. No laundry in unit, but I send out my laundry anyway.
The people saying 6k+ are clearly overpaying for comforts and luxuries. But I will say some neighborhoods have very low inventory right now. So it can be tricky.

I thought San Francisco rent is similar to manhattan. 6k+ for a nice 2br. Which part of SF do you live
Got cha. I would say upper east / upper west / Williamsburg or even long island city are pretty nice. I like the LIC area (but not in Manhattan) - new buildings, big sidewalks and only 15 mins train into the city

I pay 4400 for a nice 2 bed with washer dryer (regular rent of 4900 with a month free) and you’re all freaking me out! We’re prepared to pay 6k when the lease is renewed but not more…
