I’ve been murdered 3 or 4 times.
Well when the progressive Mayor of SF who previously was in favor of defunding the police (London Breed) is saying it’s really bad… then it’s probably really bad.

MD2- you sound bitter. Hope you heal.
Is it bad? Sure. Is it as bad as on Faux News? Def no.
I'll be independent and say all three of you need to watch less boob tube
It’s pretty bad, I’ve lived in two different “nice” Westside LA neighborhoods that have been overrun with violent crime (and yes, out of control encampments). My old place had multiple homeless homicides right outside. Now my new place still has security issues and guards that tell us they can’t do anything. I no longer feel safe walking if it’s not daylight (sucks when it gets dark before 5pm). And when I do walk I am hyper alert, no jewelry, not on my phone, no AirPods etc.
it sucks living like this
My argument is that I have felt unsafe in multiple places in LA where safety shouldn’t be an issue (Brentwood, Santa Monica, Marina) - you trying to invalidate that when every link I’ve posted has directly impacted my neighborhood or my friends (not some random articles I’ve found online) is what I am arguing against. Again, different parts of Santa Monica are safer than others depending on how residential vs commercial it is. Using your example, I don’t know anyone who has been hospitalized for covid but I know several who have been robbed or assaulted on the west side - most which have gone unsolved or more likely, unreported. Btw, my own car was broken into in SM so just because you haven’t experienced it doesn’t invalidate others’

It’s funny how people highlight the crime and homelessness in SF and some parts of LA. California is much more and it is still a best state to live in the country for plethora of reasons. I think it’s just the political vendetta or jealousy that makes people talk against California.

Right but how many cities ever have a Republican mayor. There was Giuliani and Bloomberg in NYC back when there was a more reasonable Republican party.
I’ve lived in urban and suburban areas and the difference is generally cities attract people and there is just so many more people. When there are that many people living in open air drug markets, it looks 3rd world because it is and when people get overwhelmed, life can be cheapened.

I was just in San Fran, Orange County/San Diego so it varies by where you are. San Fran is similar to Seattle and the homicide rate is up and theres just a lot of drug and homelessness and the cities are way too permissive.
Crimes up almost everywhere but its more about the response than the crime.

No one on my team has been back in an office since March 2020, we’ve met at operational sites in the field but nothing in SLU.
I live in CA and I’m visiting friends in Florida for holidays. Every new acquaintance just ask me about that and unsolicited tell me how much homeless CA has and “how dirty it was when I visited there”. My answer is always: yea you should stay here. That saves all the good wine, national parks, beautiful lakes, educated people, higher paying jobs, lower covid numbers and much better food for us! 😘

Fear and hysteria gets clicks, which means $$$.
That's why you see publications like Fox harping on this as an existential crisis and publications like CNN/MSNBC harping on stuff like Trump as an existential crisis.

I lived in Austin in the past and currently live in SD. I feel like SD is safer than Austin. Not sure how good is this website but here is the comparative metrics I found online
Get a grip, sweethearts! One would think you live in apocalypse land.
Delete the neighborhood app. Stop watching Fox News. Don’t listen to right wing radio. Remove sources from your life that monetize fear. Crime is a fact of life wherever people are. Be smart and not stupid.

No crime problem in the US state where I live.
I moved to the US 10yr ago and have been living in Philly and DC. I always wanted to move to the Bay area because of job opportunities and the weather. Travelled to LA and SF for the first time in last month for a week, and SF is the very first city in the US that made me so scared walking around both day time and night time. I’m glad that I made that trip to wake me up from the Bay area dream.
Pwc 2 please stay in philly!

It’s not any different than it’s ever been. Fear is a huge motivator, whether it’s real or not, so this is why you see Murdoch publications like Fox and WSJ claiming crime is raging everywhere (but only in liberal states according to them). Then they’ll post one video of a smash and crab and everyone is like “omggggggg LA is so dangerous” even those it’s statistically insignificant

I have to say, reading all these posts and I feel like I must not live in CA. I’ve lived here 15 years (but admittedly mostly South Bay) with zero incident (let me not jinx it). And add to that the convenience of not having to travel, not having to drive 60 min to get everywhere (90% of my clients are in the South Bay), warm weather and sunshine 8 months of the year, ample parking, yet being able to go to all the fun things within 90 min has been amazing. I don’t think the South Bay or peninsula is any more expensive than SF, if anything it’s more sqft per $. You should all consider moving! DM me if anyone wants to know more. Oh also, we’ve bought houses and made $$$ through home appreciation, which has also been great. Moving into a 3400 sqft home soon on flat land with a yard

Just avoid SF and LA and you’ll be fine

Add Oakland to that
It’s over-exaggerated….by a lot. There’s probably a political reason these stories are being spread, but I am too lazy to look them up. Merry Christmas…
SC3- Its called city living. Makes me laugh out loud when a snowflake drives past a street with a few junkies and they get scared. Try living in any big city in the 80s and 90s….half of brooklyn and most of the bronx were so dangerous that if you pulled that same slum tourism stunt you would definitely have been car jacked.
It’s over exaggerated. I live in Oakland and feel much safer than the richest neighborhoods in the large cities I used to live in Latin America
True, but historically speaking it’s worse than it’s ever been

I don’t see any difference, tbh. I have family all over CA (LA, Bay Area, SD, and inland counties) and while we see a lot of headlines, we have not altered our lifestyles in any way. Living in fear is no way to live.
