The amount of money they’ll save by not paying towards your insurance for a month will cover that lol

How expensive is it?
They have other things to worry about
Not any at all
Anything under $10k will not even register for them
When you have your own business and pay for your employees tuition and they leave , you and the others here would feel very different . This is the behavior and thinking of entitled employees working for entitled managers in a system where you own nothing.
This is the other side of working weekends for no extra pay because your director can’t manage a knees up in a brewery. Companies give and take. Employees take and give. If one side doesn’t want to give something the other takes, they can either refuse to give it or give it with conditions. It’s absolutely nothing to do with a sense of entitlement. It’s more about the increasingly transactional nature of careers and the erosion of loyalty. If you won’t give me training/ certification, I’ll find someone else who will. If I won’t work weekends, evenings, and holidays, you’ll find someone else who will. There’s no real loyalty to people, it’s more transactional.
Because of my company’s discount and because they’re certified to teach it, cost is $400. External it can go upwards of $2500 for training and exam.

400$ is not a lot, I’ve spent thousands of soon to be old firms money on certifications and training. They made that up in my billables anyway. No one will feel bad if you leave because they need you to get certified so that they can keep renewing their firm certification.

It’s business. Happens all the time. As long as your firm doesn’t have any stipulations where you need to stay x amount of time after they pay otherwise you have to pay back, don’t worry about it.
Thank you all for your input, I appreciate it a lot!!
My company sent me to a course for a few grand. I put my notice in the next week. Didn't even blink.
