How busy is your practice group since the onset of COVID? I’m a mid-level transactional associate. Practice was dead in March/April and seems to be surprisingly busy now. Hoping that means good things in terms of productivity going forward.

Healthcare practice, so we never slowed down. June and July are usually slower, but not this year.

Niche area of law, we never slowed down and in fact are working more than this time last year (at least it feels this way!)

M&A and Cap Markets. Miraculously, one of the deals I was working on in Q1 closed at the end of March, and having that closing frenzy took my mind off the quarantine and impending doom. Q2 and the beginning of Q3 were pretty quiet for M&A and, other than normal exchange act reporting, were quiet for CapM, but it now feels like we’ve turned the corner. Things that were on hold are coming back and new deals are coming in.

I’m also a transactional associate. I had the same slow April/May and then it has really picked up since the end of June

Mid-level commercial real estate acquisitions/finance associate. My practice area is just now starting to pick up, but I’m still not at usual “August” levels - no one has been anxious to buy commercial property for obvious reasons. Now is one of those times I wish I had experience with commercial leasing. Haha

Medium sized market and a smaller firm (6 attys w/ 4 partners) doing specifically work comp defense. Our work has not slowed down at all. I have gotten more cases assigned for me to handle from the partners because they have so much. Just starting my third year.

I am in the same boat OP. I am transactional at mid-range firm. Things were extremely slow March through June. July and August really picked up.

PF midlevel here. Things were busy in March/first half of April, dead-ish until end of May, and has been picking up since mid June except for two dead weeks earlier this month.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m not terribly thrilled with the new Halo Top ad. I’m all for body acceptance but part of the reason COVID hit the U.S. so hard is because of co-morbidities like obesity. There has to be a line btw “real” bodies and not celebrating a state that causes so many medical issues - Ie overweight without the medical definition of very obese. Do you think brands have gone too far in the other direction?

I have a contingent offer after being laid off in spring due to COVID. Since then the job market has obviously been tough, so a few buddies and I started a start up that has done very well, but we haven’t filed for LLC status yet (keeps pushing back). We have ~10 guys working on various areas. I just received an offer back in my usual industry, and have been truthful in my experiences. Will they ding me in a background check since there’s no 1099 to prove formal employment? FYI I have references

For those who’ve been VERY careful throughout covid (aka takeout only, no gatherings, outdoor activities only, etc), when are you easing up? I received my first shot, but I’m hesitant to totally let go just yet given we now have all 3 major variants in my state, my city has been a popular tourist destination, and it’s hard to tell who is and isn’t vaccinated. What % for first shot received or fully vaccinated do you think makes sense for easing up? Or just wait til herd immunity?

Wats your take guys ? I don't like hybrid model as it works for those who are locals of same city where the office is . For me i have to leave my parents, hometown and travel 2000kms to Bangalore for joining office how it is hybrid for me ? I still worry about myself and family health not sure about COVID. Also most of my team sits in Hyderabad few are in Bangalore .office should be optional. Indeed we were able to work in past 2 years right ? Then why force people to office ?

Do I have a drinking problem? I live alone. I cannot wait for wine at 6. I work my ass off sober 12 hrs a day. Then I drain 2 bottles of wine. I wake up parched and confused and do it again. I did not have Excedrin yesterday and had to shuffle to Rite Aid to get it. Plus a xanax to chill. But I WORK and produce and never let anyone down. Is this OK? I just work, drink, sleep, repeat.

My company is transitioning from wfh back to the office, but everyone returning to the office is supposed to be vaccinated. I told my boss I would NOT be getting the vaccine and he said I wouldn’t have a desk in the office until I did. So I told him I would continue to wfh. He said that “wouldn’t work.” After our phone call, I got an invite for a zoom conference with my boss and an HR rep!? They’re infringing on my rights by requiring a vaccine. What can I do to make sure I keep my job?

Genuinely confused as to why so many state and local governments are dropping all covid safety measures. Things have been trending downward, and that’s great, but almost the entire country is still at high community transmission levels. I don’t understand the metric they are using to gauge things all of a sudden.

I am taking another sick day this coming Monday. It's necessary for both my physical and mental health, which are severely compromised due to the stress of this insane school year (and the last one, and the spring before that -- I think this is cumulative with COVID, the political situation, etc.). I have never taken this many sick days during ANY school year in my 20+ years of teaching. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is anyone else having anxiety about taking so many days off?

Hi college men and women. I have a question for you, if you don’t mind. My HS Senior son has received acceptance letters from a few schools and will soon be deciding. A) he hasn’t been able to visit any of the remote schools due to COVID and he likely won’t get many good visits before decision day B) his HS senior year sucked thanks to COVID. Would you jump into college as a freshman this fall or take a year off?
