Spent 4+ years as CMO of startup company. It was an incredible learning experience but also a very difficult uphill battle trying to steer the owners and the company in the right direction. I’ve just exited the company as of 11/18. The owners expected to storm the marketplace and emerge as a number one brand at only 6 years old without putting in the work.Company had a very hard time understanding the concept of a unique value proposition. Hoping to find a new remote (full time) position ASAP

For the smaller offices you mention, if the race is contested, I generally read their candidate statements or website content. Also to a news/Google search to see if there’s anything out there, including perhaps endorsements with a rationale
It also depends on the job — some of these jobs aren’t really ideological in most cases. The tax assessor or county clerk just needs to be competent. There’s basically no policy making going on. In that case, you’re evaluating for that rather than policy issues
Welcome to America, congrats on your recent citizenship and thank you so very much for asking such a great question and for participating in our voting process! 100% agree with OW above that the small offices you mention don't make many policy decisions so party affiliation does not matter but you can always do any of the folllowing to better inform yourself.
- Take 2018 political quiz (https://www.isidewith.com/political-quiz ) - long but helps you figure out where you land on current social, economic, domestic, healthcare, etc. issues (i.e. do your view on issue(s) tend to be liberal, conservative or independent leaning) which educates you on issues, the party and some candidates that supports your views on the issues and may very well differ by topic. This makes candidate and proposition research much easier.
Google for the following (most likely available on 1-2 websites, not including research) if you'd like more info:
- Early voting and general voting locations for your city
- Download sample ballot, make note of any positions and/or candidates you need more info on before making a decision
****Propositions or state and local ballot measures (i.e. are you for or against the topic) and any recalls that may be on your midterm ballot and research as necessary
- Research mid term candidates for your state, county and district and research positions and/or candidates identified above
Thank you sooo much this post really made my day. You are awesome!
Just a note: If any politician is paid for and by any Super PAC money, will never work for you. Best thing to do is follow the money.
I have followed some political issues, and those running for offices, but I can’t follow every single one of them. For example, when asked to vote for my tax assessor, school board, some state judicial, I barely know these persons or even know what they do. I read their person statement but I have very little information about them unlike presidential candidate. I even don’t have much info on senator and congress or governor.
As a naturalized citizen and didn’t grow up in a country that requires to vote, how can I educate myself? And also without overwhelming myself with every single person on the ballot
Agree with the above statements. I try to also see the voting record and the minutes from important decisions like tax increase, anything related to the school board, and zoning.
You can also go to vote save America.com. They have a pretty comprehensive list of all the candidates in state and federal elections as well as an explanation of any ballot initiatives for all states.
I don’t associate myself with either party as well and just vote for the party because I agree with either one or other on varying issues, and not always on the same one
Thank you K1. That’s very informative
