Wow! This bowl exists. I am so happy.
Hello! I recently went through this process (diagnosed formally yesterday!) I'd recommend by just getting the ball rolling with the NHS, contact your GP & have a list of symptoms and how it is impacting your life ready to discuss. Once you have an appt they will invite you back for an appt with the nurse to run an EKG and bloods (baseline for future meds). Then they ask for a small essay on how ADHD has impacted your life, work/academia, family & relationships. They use this to refer you onto a specialist mental health service & this is the part that takes time. For me (Newham, London), my wait between the gp submitting and my meeting was only a month but this is v good for the UK. They service then completes a DIVA assessment (have a Google) to diagnose you f2f.
The key is just getting started - it'll always take time but the longer you wait now, the longer your diagnosis will take.
If you go private, you need to read your policy wording to see what's included/excluded - I'm with AXA and have a great policy but they've excluded ADHD assessments. With this process, start the same, go to the GP, have the same discussion and ask for a referral privately. Or your policy may have a number you can call to help skip that step. Just make sure the service you use is covered by your provider.
The final option is private assessment without insurance & this costs around £1.8-2k from my last research so is a lot to fork out.
Wishing you all the best! Feel free to DM about any of the above 😊
Thank you so much for the detailed answer. Very useful.
I've heard the waiting list is crazy long and it can take weeks and weeks to even see someone. If they have telehealth services over there I would try to go that route and see if you can get a prescription or help from them. Not sure about private medical covering it.
It's better to ask for a referral so you can get the best medical treatment available I know waiting can be the worst but you have to do it to get a prescription and to know what meds are right for you.
