If you’re just getting started, I recommend finding a small size healthcare business focused around pharmaceutical, medical devices and/or medtech. You may have to start at entry level if you lack the experience (ie. marketing coordinator, sales representative). However, I found in my experience I accelerated very quickly into leadership roles at these small businesses. That’s what I did.

I found a small “ma and pa” privately owned Med Device company, was hired in as a customer service sales rep (it was hourly + commission), and quickly moved into a sales & marketing manager role. Once I felt like I gained the experience I needed, I moved on to a small-mid size business after 2 years. I again accepted an entry level role that paid slightly more but was quickly promoted in 8 months and became an Sales & Operations Manager.

My journey eventually lead me to a Fortune 100 company. Of course, everyone’s journey is going to be different. The most important thing I learned working in healthcare is just get your foot in the door however you can. Because once you’re in it’s easier to grow and gain employment in your dream position. Hope this helps.

You will make a killing in medical device sales or pharma sales if you have the skills for it

Do you know how I could get into a role like that?

It shouldn't be too hard to get your foot in the door with your education and background. Most companies looking to fill these roles will give preference to candidates who have knowledge of the healthcare industry.

Keyword: “good paying”. Probably wants $200k a year and not the $50k offered.

Thank you! That was helpful!
