I would definitely look for a company that can give you the opportunity to step up to that PO role or maybe fast track you to it. I have had two babies and both times I returned I felt down about having missed out on so much and having had others pick up slack but I always turned it into an opportunity to state that I had time to reflect and return with a fresh outlook.
One of the most important pieces of feedback a manager ever gave to me was to promote and highlight my wins and potential as opposed to speaking about what I couldn’t achieve or do. I am so hard on myself for my own reasons and I was putting that impression out there, pointing out my weakness when I should have been highlighting all that I achieved. A working mom used to be perceived as less worthy of promotion due to family restrictions but I swear this pandemic has turned all that upside down as everyone for a taste for what it’s like with the pandemic. On a side note, McKinsey stated that men are more like to be hired based on potential as women more likely based on experience…use the experience as a successful BA to prove you are worthy as a PO.
