I'm not pleased that he won the election, but I do think that his policy and business dealings can be legitimate; time will tell. Just because a policy benefits him doesn't mean it's corrupt. Republicans are all about stimulating the economy, right? Trickle down economics?
When you answer your annual independence compliance questions , do you ever have a question "does an independent investment manager have financial oversight at xyz" or do you see the question "do you, a dependent, or family member have financial oversight over cuz"??? Independence rarely separates oneself from family and dependents
I think he will be highly scrutinized because of his conflicts of interest. I wonder if he can get impeached if he crosses a line
Trump business dealings are the next Hillary emails.
I don't the the President has to deal with independence issues...don't fact check me on that one, just my gut feeling.
That blows my mind... Auditors are over hear walking on eggshells and the President can't have blatant conflicts of interest? I understand he's not he first president to have this but still.
Can*
The POTUS is exempt from conflicts of interest. I don't think Trump did this to benefit his business. There are a hell of a lot of easier ways to make a dollar than to run for president. He will make decisions that benefit business in general, and his own businesses may see benefit as a result. Oh well. Not a problem in my mind.
His assets will go into a blind trust. His kids will probably run things. If he doesn't have people in place to run things in his absence, then his advisors have not done a good job with succession planning.
Blind trust, sucker
That's different because he knows who is running the trust and talks to them regularly. Doubting he's not going to talk to his kids for 4 years. Even Giuliani said Trump can't do a real blind trust so what is so hard to understand?
I think people have legitimate concerns about him completely stepping away from a business that he's been in full control of for the last 50 years and is something he's spent every waking moment building.
We should all be happy about this situation though. If anything it gives him an opportunity to fuck up with an impeachable offense. Unless you consider Pence to be even worse than Trump. Then I guess you wouldn't want him imoeachedZ
Again, I'm not pro-Trump, but I think you're being illogical. What's he supposed to do? Stop having businesses? Put all of his money in the bank while he is President? As long as he's an elected official there's the possibility that he'll be impeached for doing something that's wrong. He can't create laws on his own, that's what the legislative branch does.
I agree w/your last comment there
Apparently I was wrong about the conflicts of interest. See NPR story "Critics see legal..."
What BT Said. Acting presidents can't run a business and I believe cannot receive income other than the presidential compensation...fact check me on latter part. George W had to put the rangers in a trust when he got elected
So won't Trump just put his businesses in a blind trust? Similar to what Mitt did...
Yes
So what's the issue then if everything will be placed in a blind trust?
