Ask to talk to someone on the level of the position you’re interviewing for. Not only will that conversation hopefully be pretty illuminating, the way the recruiter/HR responds to the request will probably tell you everything you need to know.

my coach is very unresponsive and beyond distant. He just keeps saying that things are tough and doesn’t do anything to help. I’m an S3 up for promotion next summer but I’m not sure even if the promotion will be worth it. Is it worth it to stay till the manager or is it time to jump ship.

How have people decided it was time to look at other firms? I like my firm just fine, but I don’t love it. I’m not sure if that means it’s time to look elsewhere or if it’s just a normal don’t love it like I wouldn’t love any job. I’m sure corona is playing a part too, just don’t love the culture, lack of transparency in what it takes to move up, lack of formal reviews, etc. I’m pretty junior and firm is ~100 attorneys for context

I am so discouraged. Left consulting as a high performer and well respected by my colleagues and clients to an industry role 2 months ago and feel it’s not clicking. I feel so dumb all the time, I feel like my hiring manager regrets they hired me (even though she is wonderful and supportive) and I feel like the people I interact with think I’m an idiot. It’s a 180 degree turn from just two months ago. Has anyone else gone through similar? Feeling really embarrassed. Maybe I made a mistake.

Hi 🐠, need some advice. Was told by my manager that time doing research (for info related to my client) is not client billable and has to be charged to the overhead code. This strikes me as fundamentally wrong, esp bc this is a flat rate project so the hours will just affect my utilization / internal metrics, not how much the client is billed. I asked for a non-billable code that counts towards utilization but was told my utilization is fine even though I’d be billing <40hrs & to use OH code
