OP - I’ve spoken at length about this w black colleagues. This ain’t a systemic problem at these firms. I think it’s unlikely you have partners having internal meetings talking about we don’t wanna bring on black partners.
It’s a population distribution thing. There are more white people by a lot. Thus you’ll see a ton of whites everywhere including leadership roles in professional services.
In contrast with asians, black caribbeans, and Indians, these immigrant groups/cultures value college education a bit more than black Americans (and specifically certain majors over others). It is instilled in them. Black Americans put way less emphasis on that (said to me by black folks). That’s said, Black Americans have strong representation in athletics, music, arts, and some blue collar jobs.
It’s a numbers and cultural thing. I don’t see why we need to force it. People of certain backgrounds might just feel inspired by different things.
I am white Latino. I felt inspired by peers to major in accounting/finance and pursue professional services over plumbing, construction, auto mechanics.. hell even engineering or medicine.
Huh this post is disgusting. A cultural thing. My guy if I were you I would delete this. I think you are missing out on centuries of oppression and segregation that you as a Latino guy don't have a grasp on. Please take your bias and limited knowledge somewhere else. I hope you are not part of the recruitment process at any point with this type of mentality
Firms that "do something" without promoting on merit are inherently racist and devalue the work that other BIPOC leaders have put in
As a BIPOC leader, I would be insulted if someone promoted me based on anything but objective merit.
OP claiming they can’t be racist because of the color of their skin, yet dismissing Guidehouse 1’s valid opinion based on a wild assumption about their ethnicity.
Just wow….
1-2% of CPAs are black so it will be tough for there to be representative figure at Big4
Need to recruit and retain better. More scholarships for those UR groups. KPMG has an EMBARK program that has seen some initial success
The responses here with all the gas lighting tells me everything I need to know

Consultant, I accept the last comment you wrote and I will take some time for introspection. Not being cynical here. If you are willing to DM me and chat about how I can learn to be more empathetic towards others experiences I’d truly appreciate it.
It's not only blacks, it's all POC that are underrepresented. It's a widespread problem even outside of consulting firms
Well tbh as a poc, my family pushed for something in the medical, law, or entrepreneur field. Consulting or accounting wasnt considered prestigious or noteworthy.
Here for the sick ratio
That was my thought at the onboarding event! It was only Asian and white. I came from the industry and was shock to see that.
This is such an ignorant comment. Do you know MORE THAN half of the world’s population is Asia?
Asians are disproportionately populated in parts of America. Specifically, entire office has 2 Asians. As a black professional myself, we have more black representation here.
Before you want to solve DEI issues, maybe make some friends from other cultures and race outside of your own. Or do some Google searches. Not that hard to educate yourself on your privileges, racism, xenophobia and homophobia.
I can’t speak for other firms but at PwC US and Mexico, 20% of top leadership (5 out of 20) are Black. Only 1 Hispanic and 1 Asian. We need more Hispanic and Asian leaders!!

What firm are you at, and have you worked at MBB and all of the big 4?
Come again? I said I worked in a couple of the big 4 organizations and that I have close friends in some of these organizations and that we compare and talk
Chief
Did you mean African Americans ?
What ethnic groups are you comparing to?
Chief
Your question is on race and not ethnicity then. Somebody from Ghana doesn’t share the same ethnic identity with African Americans.
Before you get into “POC”, please know that that is an extremely diverse group. Calling them all POC and make a very macro statement doesn’t mean much
So who exactly are you talking about? For instance , Indian Americans are doing great. Vietnamese Americans ,maybe not. So if you see Indian american partner , it doesn’t mean that all “Asians” are better off , does it? If this is about African Americans , yes the issue is systemic racism and lack of opportunities for centuries. You can’t compare one “POC” with other and call it a day
Chief
Firms are putting a lot of emphasis on DEI hiring initiatives and internal diversity campaigns.
This post is talking about lack of representation not the success of the firms
