How come I feel guilt whenever I don't work on a weekend? I am underpaid thus should not work overtime... so why the guilt?

There can definitely be some pressure to pop online when you see emails from seniors, managers etc. over the weekends but you have to take advantage of the non busy times and not work unless there's something actually due on Monday. Only way to survive public accounting imo otherwise it's easy to get burned out.

That's not by accident, you've been indoctrinated (or drank the Kool aid as someone already said). From the moment you walk through the doors as a new hire they try to convince you the world of public accounting is a meritocracy and if you work hard and give up your life for the cause you will be rewarded...and you will to a certain extent...its just not as serious as they intend to make it. You know the people who always seem to be about two weeks behind on everything yet are really successful at the firm? They've figured it out. Don't feel guilty, just get to it when you get to it. Deadlines are never real.

I completely agree. I get the same guilty feelings all the tjme

Best (realistic) location for a project? I.E. not Cancun or Aspen. Thinking something like Portland or Austin - great locations, good food, excellent hotels, etc

Aight fam. Spent last year on the PIP, almost got fired mid year, but worked on firm initiatives like a machine through the year, and killed it on client projects. Finally out of the PIP. Fuck yeah!!!

Would it be career suicide in the US to go to a European school for masters? Thinking of a career break and want to go to school to learn something interesting. Torn between shelling out ~200K for a Tier 1 Ivy and getting the brand/network. On the flipside my colleagues in Europe seem so much more laid back and while their schools (outside of Oxbridge) aren't really known that well in the English speaking world it might be a nice break with little to no cost.
